PHOENIX (AP) — San Francisco third baseman Matt Chapman to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night because of an abdominal strain that he suffered in the sixth inning. The five-time Gold Glove winner is scheduled for an MRI on Wednesday to determine the severity of the injury. The 33-year-old Chapman charged in on a ground ball, fielded it cleanly with his bare hand and threw out Gabriel Moreno at first to end the sixth, but was in obvious pain as he gingerly walked to the dugout.

SEATTLE (AP) — Julio Rodriguez had three hits and scored twice, Bryan Woo took a shutout into the seventh inning and the Seattle Mariners put together a five-run sixth on Tuesday night to beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-3. Rodriguez and Colt Emerson both had three of Seattle’s 13 hits. Randy Arozarena and Cole Young scored two runs apiece. Woo (7-6) allowed just four hits and struck out five in 6 1/3 innings.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kevin O’Malley, who owned and operated minor league baseball teams in California, was a part-owner of the for years and a son of former Los Angeles Dodgers president Peter O’Malley, died Tuesday. He was 50. He died from complications of sepsis while in hospice care in Santa Barbara, the elder O’Malley said. Kevin O’Malley was in New York on business last fall when he fell ill.

PHOENIX (AP) — Ketel Marte homered in his fourth straight game, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. added a three-run homer and the Arizona Diamondbacks extended their dominance against the San Francisco Giants with a 8-2 win on Tuesday night. The D-backs are 8-0 against the Giants this season, winning five times in Arizona and three times in San Francisco. Gurriel’s three-run homer in the first was his second long ball of the season and barely cleared the fence in left center.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Tommy Edman had four hits including his first home run of the season, and Dave Roberts became the fastest manager in history to reach 1,000 career wins after the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Athletics 9-3 on Tuesday. Miguel Rojas also homered to help the Dodgers to their fourth straight victory and seventh in eight games. Edman had four RBIs while Mookie Betts added three hits.

DENVER (AP) — Javier Sanoja and Owen Caissie each hit three-run homers, and Joe Mack added a two-run shot as the Miami Marlins defeated the Colorado Rockies 14-3 to claim their franchise-best 20th win of June. The Marlins, who have the second-lowest payroll in MLB, have outscored opponents 133-80 in June, their best calendar month in franchise history. They are also the first team in MLB to win 20 games in a month this year.

CHICAGO (AP) — Dansby Swanson hit two of Chicago’s five home runs and the Cubs held on for their fourth straight victory, 9-7 over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night. Alex Bregman, Michael Busch and Pete Crow-Armstrong added homers to help the Cubs win for the 10th time in 12 games. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit two home runs and Manny Machado and Gavin Sheets also went deep as San Diego dropped its fourth straight after a four-game winning streak.

HOUSTON (AP) — Yordan Alvarez’s grand slam highlighted a six-run fourth inning and the Houston Astros beat the Minnesota Twins 6-4 on Tuesday night. With Houston facing a three-run deficit after three innings, Cam Smith and Taylor Trammell singled in the fourth. With runners at the corners, Yainer Diaz hit an RBI single. Raynel Delgato walked, loading the bases. Jose Altuve challenged his strikeout call with a full count. The call was overturned and another run scored.

BOSTON (AP) — Cade Civalli gave up one hit in seven innings and had a career-high 13 strikeouts in the Washington Nationals’ 8-1 victory over the Red Sox on Tuesday night, snapping Boston’s five-game winning streak. Civalli, who was at the center of a in the fourth inning, yelled at Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras after striking him out, causing the benches to clear.
