Updated September 4, 2026 at 1:28 PM CDT KATHMANDU, Nepal — Rescuers in Nepal pulled two workers alive from an underground tunnel at a hydropower plant Friday, raising hopes of reaching dozens of others believed to be trapped nine days after deadly floods swept away villages and submerged the Himalayan region in mud and debris. Search teams first heard voices from inside the tunnel in the morning, allowing them to locate the two men, Nepalese lawmaker Shri Ram Neupane said.

Roth criticized the proposal, saying it could pressure universities to dismantle programs that disproportionately benefit students of color.

Updated September 4, 2026 at 12:15 PM CDT The Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to lift a block on the U.S. Postal Service plan for President Trump's attempt to restrict mail-in voting for the midterm election. For now, key parts of that plan are blocked by a temporary restraining order from a federal judge in Boston. A ruling from the high court is not expected until sometime after 10 a.m. ET on Sept. 8.

The judge in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy has granted the request of her defense attorney to appeal to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to seek an emergency stay in the case. This came moments after the judge said he intended to declare a mistrial Friday morning. Clancy, 36, was charged with strangling 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan, in the family's home in Duxbury, Mass.
