Improvement works are due to start at Pentrebychan Crematorium this week, with a new footway and access road among the changes planned over the coming weeks. Wrexham Council said work on the new footway and access road is scheduled to take place from 12 to 21 September. Resurfacing of the highway outside the crematorium will follow, with preparation works on 17 and 18 October and the resurfacing itself completed between 24 and 27 October.

Residents are proud of Wrexham but want improvements to accessibility, public toilets, signage, parking and transport in the city centre, according to a report published by the city’s MP. Young people across Wales will be able to travel on buses from just £1 until March 2027. The Welsh Government confirmed that the scheme, introduced by the Welsh Labour administration last autumn, will continue for another six months. It allows people aged five to 21 to travel for £1 for a single journey or £3 for a day ticket on participating bus services across Wales and some cross-border routes. Those aged 16 to 21 need a valid mytravelpass to access the discounted fares.

A review of the Senedd constituencies has been launched by the body responsible for setting Wales’s political boundaries. The Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru published its Guide to the 2030 Review on Wednesday. The current Fflint Wrecsam and Clwyd constituencies were created ahead of this year’s Senedd election by pairing existing Westminster constituencies. That method will not be used this time.

Natural Resources Wales has apologised after a spreadsheet containing employee diversity information, including details such as ethnicity, religion or belief and sexual orientation, was inadvertently disclosed. The breach affects people employed by NRW between April 2013 and March 2018. The body has reported the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

More than 100 cases of bluetongue have now been confirmed in Wales. The Welsh Government is urging livestock keepers to continue following current guidance as the virus spreads across Wales and parts of Great Britain. Bluetongue is a viral disease spread by biting midges which affects livestock including sheep and cattle and can cause serious illness. The virus does not affect humans. Livestock keepers must report suspected cases to the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) immediately.

Inspectors found a paediatric area left unattended, medicine and equipment that had expired as far back as 2020 and patients being cared for in corridors at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd’s emergency department, according to a report published by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales. The full inspection report follows an unannounced visit to the Bodelwyddan hospital on 5 to 7 May 2026, after which the department was designated a Service Requiring Significant Improvement.

Coedpoeth Walking Football Club’s over-70s side have been crowned North Wales champions for the first time, going unbeaten through the entire 24-match competition. The team finished 10 points clear at the top to claim the title, which arrives in the year the club is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Team captain Alan Edwards said: “It’s a wonderful achievement for a community club like ours to win our first regional trophy, and we couldn’t have picked a better year to do it.
