In March of 1966, John Lennon would make the comment “We’re more popular than Jesus now; I don’t know which will go first, rock ‘n’ roll or Christianity…” during an interview with Maureen Cleave of the London Evening Standard. A statement which would go on to frame itself in the hall of fame regarding The Beatles’ many historical pop culture moments, due to the extensive backlash the band faced.

In recent years People in the Daytime have become a pillar within the alternative scene in Cleveland, Ohio, as a result of their unique stage presence and distinctive lyricism.

“SUN’S OUT, SYNTHS OUT” broadcasting schedule Hey everyone! I’m super excited to announce that our first specialty programming event of the summer show cycle is nearly upon us; it’s called “SUN’S OUT, SYNTHS OUT,” and it’s gonna be a whole week packed full of fantastic programming focused entirely on electronic music and specially curated by just a few of our many amazing DJs here at WRFL.

When I started at WRFL, people often told me I had the “coolest job ever.” While that may be true, what they didn’t mention was that one day I’d get to interview a band I’ve been listening to since I was 14, and somehow be able to call it “work.” Being Music Director at WRFL comes with a lot of perks, but one of my favorites is connecting with promoters across the country who help bring new music to college radio stations like ours.

In the months leading up to the release of Modern Baseball’s Holy Ghost, the band that had just formed five years previously found themselves touring constantly, while struggling to handle the hurdles of their own mental health, and unknowingly at the time writing the final chapter of their musical legacy. In the midst of all the muddle surrounding them, Modern Baseball was able to forge an album that confronts themes of grief, anxiety, and the turmoil of fleeting youth.

For thirty years, the world wept over the loss of Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell. Even as the band gradually became a nostalgic blast from the past for millennials on SiriusXM’s Lithium station, the sun-filled rebellion that Sublime represented has been able to find a new life in the hearts of fresh ears that are still fixated on the aesthetic of nineties Southern California.

In this episode of Campus Voices, Evon Oliver speaks with Peter Baniak and Kakie Urch about the Press Forward Bluegrass pilot program, news deserts, rural and underserved communities, and the announcement of ten $10,000 grants to support local newsroom efforts in the region. Peter Baniak is a local journalism and media leader in Central Kentucky.
