“Chic” has lost all meaning in 2026. Scrolling through my feed on any platform, I am berated with the word: “10 things I find incredibly chic,” “Welcome to my ultimate chic girl essentials list,” “5 chic gifts for the cool guy in your life.” I’ll save you the time, it is always a candle. I myself have been caught up in the overusage, choosing the word to describe regular activities I do as a way to clamor for glamour.

My New Band Believe Debuts a Whimsical Classic of Epic Proportions
Categories: April 21, 2026 On occasion, I am reminded of my infinitesimal smallness. Astronauts, part of the recent Artemis II mission to the moon (the first in over a half century), provided a stark glimpse into my speck-like nature in capturing an updated photo of the Earth.

Sudan Archives Hacks The Basement East
It was hard not to feel out of place in my T-shirt and jeans standing in an eclectic concert crowd consisting of many leather get-ups and metallic face mask contraptions. I felt disconnected, like I was a part plugged into the wrong slot in a machine. As the lights dimmed, these thoughts were enveloped in an onslaught of glitched-out noises as Sudan Archives entered The Basement East stage. The conglomeration of people became transfixed as she glided across stage, booting up.
I don’t like one of my favorite songs.
For years, I have wrestled with the idea of posthumously released music. Is it something that should be celebrated or ignored? Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) the Dock of the Bay” sits at the core of this tension. While the beautifully crafted song represents timeless tranquility, many are not aware that Redding never finished the song. Prior to its release, Redding tragically died in a plane crash, causing intense grief in the music community.
Sham Jam 2026 Spotlight: Impediment
Impediment have long been a staple of Nashville’s DIY scene, spanning punk, jangle pop, shoegaze, and a vast variety of other genres over their career. They’ll be playing a free show at the East Room on Thursday, March 19th at 7:30pm to end their US tour. I caught up with them over Zoom as they were driving from Indiana to Detroit to talk influences, balancing projects, and their forthcoming love letter to Nashville. This interview has been edited for clarity and length.
underscores’ “U” is a Revelation
Internet users, particularly those in the music milieu, love a buzzword. “Electroclash,” “bloghouse,” and “indie sleaze” have slotted perfectly into so many modern pop reviews that it can be hard to truly understand their true definitions anymore. Before these current times, one buzzword was truly inescapable to anyone who considered themselves a music fan: hyperpop.
