A house fire broke out in Pittsfield over the weekend, and thankfully everyone made it out safe. It happened on Sunday night just before 9 p.m. Firefighters were called to 622 Dalton Division Road for a possible structure fire. The homeowner had called a neighbor to say his house was on fire, and that neighbor called it in. Pittsfield Fire responded with four engines, a tower truck, and the on-duty Deputy Chief all showed up.

Back in July, I got a hot tip that Dave's Hot Chicken was moving into the old Papa Gino's/El Habanero spot at 685 Merrill Road in Pittsfield. A construction crew guy confirmed it for me at the time, but I couldn't get anything more out of him. Well, I went back this week, and things are looking a lot more official. The outside of the building is now painted white with a red awning.

Well the summer season is starting to wind down in Massachusetts, but that doesn't mean the party season is quite over. With Labor Day right around the corner, folks are gearing up to host their end of the summer backyard BBQ's. What if you're looking for that delicious BBQ menu, but you're not up for hosting a party, or even cooking yourself? There are some dine-in BBQ options in Massachusetts, but only one reigns supreme as the best of the best.

That blurry-sounding guitar line that leads the Beatles' "Think for Yourself" from 1965's Rubber Soul? That's actually no guitar at all. It's a bass part, played by Paul McCartney and fed through a device called a fuzz box, which creates a kind of grainy, distorted effect. (There's a regular bass part, too.) And as with many Beatles tracks, it broke new ground — "Think for Yourself," written by George Harrison, marked the first time this device was used on purpose with a bass.

Billy Gibbons insists his band’s current lineup is “still ZZ Top,” even if he’s the last remaining member from the trio’s classic era. For more than 50 years, Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard made up ZZ Top – the Little Ol’ Band from Texas that became worldwide superstars thanks to their distinctive brand of blues rock. Hill died in 2021 and was replaced by the band’s longtime guitar tech, Elwood Francis. More recently, Beard died on Aug. 17 at the age of 77.

Over the weekend in Clarksburg, at Peter A. Cook Veterans Memorial Field, it was all about the pickles. From the vendors to the food trucks to the 2,000+ people who attended! I walked Pittsfield High School on Saturday morning with Mayor Peter Marchetti and Superintendent Dr. Latifah Phillips. The building opened in 1931. The dome is still the dome. Four things about how kids actually go to school here now stuck with me more than the architecture. First, the lockers. They are still in the halls. They are not used. Phillips said students do not need them the way we did. When I was in high school the backpack was a small apartment. Now the machine is the backpack.

Rush as added four new cities to their surprise Fifty Something reunion tour. All of the new stops are in October and November. An all-star tribute concert to the Ramones took place on Sunday in Los Angeles, starring a supergroup dubbed the Cretin Family. The Cretin family is: Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), CJ Ramone (original bassist Dee Dee Ramone's replacement and one of just three remaining Ramones members), Tim Armstrong (Rancid), Billy Idol, and Travis Barker (Blink-182). The name of the band comes from a track called "Cretin Family" that appeared on the Ramones' 1995 album, ¡Adios Amigos!.
