A local nonprofit dedicated to preventing bullying and supporting victims will host a charity car wash this weekend to raise funds for its programs and services. Allies Against Bullying will hold the fundraiser Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Memering Motorplex, 1949 Hart Street in Vincennes. The cost is $5 for cars and small trucks and $10 for large trucks. Donations will also be accepted.

WVUB Blazer 91.1 and WVUT-TV will host their second combined remote broadcast and STEM demonstration of the season this Saturday at the Vincennes Historic Farmers Market. The live remote broadcast begins at 9 a.m. from the Riverfront Pavilion and will feature interviews, community information and giveaways. WVUT-TV’s Allyson Bowers will also present a hands-on STEM demonstration during the event.

The annual Red Skelton Festival begins this evening and continues Saturday with a full slate of activities throughout town. Tonight’s happenings required separate costs and registration but they include Red’s Pledge of Allegiance and Patriotism Talk and a new event this year, which is sold out, called Night at the Museum. Saturday is Red’s 113th birthday and the annual parade is the main daily feature.

Vincennes University students in the John Deere TECH Program recently received hands-on experience with some of John Deere’s most advanced agricultural equipment after the company’s largest combine was brought to the university’s Agricultural Center. The John Deere X9 1100 Combine and a 1775 Planter gave students the opportunity to diagnose and service equipment used by today’s dealerships.

Indiana closed the 2026 fiscal year with nearly $4 billion in reserves and a budget surplus of more than $1.8 billion. State Comptroller Elise Nieshalla says Indiana ended the fiscal year with $3.99 billion in reserves, a 60% increase from the previous year, while the state’s surplus grew 174% to $1.86 billion. State budget officials say reserve funds include more than $1.14 billion in the Rainy Day Fund, along with dedicated reserves for Medicaid and tuition support.

Governor Mike Braun says Indiana will end race- and sex-based preferences in state contracting and replace them with what he calls a merit-based system. The announcement follows a legal opinion from Attorney General Todd Rokita concluding the state’s Minority and Women’s Business Enterprise contracting preferences violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Another proposed solar project took a step forward Tuesday before the Knox County Council. The council approved a preliminary resolution establishing the process for creating an Economic Revitalization Area, or ERA, for the proposed Lucky Point Solar project in Harrison Township. Project representatives say the development would involve a minimum investment of $350 million.
