The Commodity Credit Corporation could soon fall short of funds while hindering farm safety net programs. While the increases in the farm safety net through the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act were welcome, there are concerns about USDA receiving enough funding for the safety net to work. John Newton, vice president of public policy with the American Farm Bureau Federation, says this is where the Commodity Credit Corporation comes into play.

America’s farmers who are waiting on lawmakers on Capitol Hill to finally deliver a modernized, five-year farm bill could get a clearer picture of the legislation’s path forward as soon as next week.

American agricultural producers faced another grueling financial landscape in 2025, with total farm production expenditures climbing 1.9% to reach an estimated $490.3 billion, up from $481.3 billion in 2024. According to a newly released USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) report, the national average farm production expenditure rose 3.1% to $263,955 per farm.
