Wyrd Science
Magazine
Wyrd Science is a new, quarterly, magazine for those exploring the strange worlds and new horizons of roleplaying games, wargames and board games.
With a focus as much, if not more, on the culture, history and social issues of games as the mechanics of play, Wyrd Science provides a space for games designers, writers and artists to fully unpack their ideas, inspirations and influences and for our writers to dig into both the history of gaming and the issues of today.
We also just like to write about how awesome dragons, sentient jellies, space wizards and stuff like that is. Source

PLEASE NOTE THESE T-SHIRTS WILL SHIP IN MID JULY, ANYTHING ORDERED AT THE SAME TIME WILL SHIP TOGETHER. To accompany Wyrd Science 3 - The Horror Issue, we asked acclaimed Swedish artist and MORK BÖRG co-creator Johan Nohr to design us a t-shirt, a task he took to with hideous glee. Originally only available to Kickstarter backers but whilst doing a spring clean of the office we just found a box with a handful of each size. So here they are. The t-shirts themselves are Continental N03 t-shirts.
Wyrd Science x Łukasz Kowalczuk T-Shirt
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A PRE-ORDER, THESE T-SHIRTS WILL SHIP IN MID JULY, ANYTHING ORDERED AT THE SAME TIME WILL SHIP TOGETHER. Łukasz Kowalczuk and his unmistakeable artwork has been a key part of Wyrd Science since the start, so when we started thinking about making some t-shirts, it was always a given we'd tap up Łukasz for a design. And what a design, classic Kowalczuk with a cantankerous dwarf getting stuck into a vile stinking ratman and printed in the most toxic green we could manage.

Wyrd Science returns for another exploration of the strange worlds and new horizons of tabeltop games... GOING UNDERGROUND: MAZES & MONSTERS
Is 1982’s infamous anti-D&D movie Mazes and Monsters a hysterical anti-RPG screed or a curious forgotten gem? On the 40th anniversary of its original release you’ll get a chance to decide again for yourself as the film that launched Tom Hanks onto our screens gets its first Blu-ray edition. Will Salmon spoke to David Hughes from Plumeria Pictures to find out more… It's a little surprising just how few movies there are about roleplaying.
WORDS AGAINST WIZARDRY
Peter Bebergal casts his mind back to Tom Moldvay’s Inspirational Source Material Basic D&D’s answer to Gygax’s Appendix N. I can’t recall anything from my childhood that produced in me as much wonder as the dark blue box art of the Basic Dungeons & Dragons set. I was around ten-years-old, the entire landscape of my childhood populated by Styx records, Tolkien paperbacks, Conan comics and monster movies.
B/X TO THE FUTURE
40 years and several editions on from its release, D&D B/X continues to inspire today’s thriving indie RPG scene. John Power Jr. takes a look at the game’s curious afterlife and finds that skills? Where we’re going we don’t need skills... Feature cover art: Fire Ritual by Perplexing Ruins The year 2000 would prove to be pivotal in the history of role-playing games.
PUBLISH & BE DAMNED: THE MERRY MUSHMEN
Since dropping through our letterbox in the Spring of 2001, “old school gaming Bric-à-Brac” KNOCK! has quickly become one of our favourite, and inspiring, RPG publications, each issue packed full of new rules, creatures, wild ideas, essays and art from some of the most talented names in the OSR scene. With three volumes of KNOCK! now on our shelves and A Folklore Bestiary on its way, we caught up with The Merry Mushmen behind it all to find out where it all began and what they’re up to next.
HEX LIBRIS: VAMPIRE CINEMA - THE FIRST ONE HUNDRED YEARS
Released just in time for Halloween, Christopher Frayling's Vampire Cinema - The First One Hundred Years is a lavish coffee table art book that traces the rise of the vampire from the rural backwaters of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to becoming horror cinema's leading man... As much of our latest issue has shown, few creatures of the night have taken root in popular culture quite like the vampire.
ZINEQUEST 4 - WEEK 2
It's week 2 of ZineQuest and we're back, knee deep in the zine stream sieving through the current campaigns, panning for gaming gold... And we're into week 2 of this year's ZineQuest campaign, and honestly it still feels a little quiet, which to be honest my wallet is a little bit thankful for.
ZINEQUEST 4 - WEEK 3
And we're into the back half of this year's ZineQuest campaign with nine new campaigns for you that we think are worth bleeding out in a derelict spaceship for (perhaps)... Well after a quiet first two weeks things have definitely started picking up and this week we have a bumper crop of zines for you to check out that run from the cheerful & cheerfully odd, right through to the bleakly terrifying and then back again.
