Neither the drug crisis nor related public safety issues can be resolved in the long term without first reforming the child protection system, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karacsony said on Facebook. Referring to a government briefing on child protection, Karacsony cited a Budapest report saying that 90 percent of street drug users had come from child protection institutions.
Budapest May Sue Gov't Over Solidarity Tax, Says Mayor
Gergely Karacsony, the mayor of Budapest, said on Thursday that the capital may well end up "suing" the Tisza government by default over the disputed rate of the solidarity contribution unless an agreement is reached over lawsuits already under way. Asked in an interview published in Nepszava whether the Tisza government would be legally on the hook over the solidarity contribution, Karacsony said "yes", unless agreement was reached with the government covering ongoing lawsuits.

According to the document, he owns four properties and has some 130 million forints (EUR 356,000) in savings. Baka has half ownership of a 270sqm house in Budapest's 12th district since 2002, and the same for a 93sqm apartment in the 5th district acquired in 1986. Since 1979, Baka has half ownership of a 57sqm weekend house in Szigetmonostor, north of Budapest.
