Nearly six years on, Hungary's hospitality sector is still smaller than before Covid, with far fewer catering establishments operating nationwide. According to an analysis by MBH Bank, Hungary had 41,852 catering establishments operating at the end of 2025, representing an 18% decline compared with 2019. The biggest losses have been among pubs, cafés and entertainment venues, where numbers have fallen by 35%.

29 Jul 2026 11:56 AM Hungary's Parliament has approved legislation removing a validation requirement for crypto-asset exchanges, simplifying the regulatory framework and bringing it into line with European Union rules. The amendment was passed on Tuesday with 143 votes in favour, 46 against, and one abstention. The change eliminates a domestic validation requirement that was found to be incompatible with the EU's harmonised approach to regulating crypto-assets.
Stabbing Scars Ozora Festival Hungary, Foreigners Arrested for Drug Dealing
An Israeli man has been stabbed at the Ozora Festival, in central-western Hungary, and transported to hospital by paramedics, the Fejer County police department said on Facebook. A member of the transformational and arts festival's security staff alerted police early on Tuesday after an Israeli man in his 30s was stabbed on the festival grounds, the report said. Two men were taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated assault in connection with the incident, it added.

Prosecutors are charging Balazs Bus the former mayor of Budapest's third district, with bribery in a corruption case involving several politicians of Fidesz, the Socialist party and DK, The Central Chief Prosecution Office of Investigation (KNYF) said. Bus is charged with accepting bribes in his official capacity while abusing his position for personal gain, acting in a criminal conspiracy, and engaging in such conduct on a commercial scale, KNYF said.
