Is it beautiful? Is it ugly? It’s definitely not ugly — but Jonojé, the new project from Belgian practice Studio Loho, pushes you out of your comfort zone in a way that feels thrilling. In a former brush factory on the outskirts of Bruges, Studio Loho has opened Jonojé: a six-suite B&B that doubles as a showroom, gallery, photo studio and living space. Calling it a hotel undersells it.

Some brands hit a certain age and decide to start over from scratch. Black Blaze did the opposite. Six years into its Paddington flagship, the Australian fragrance label asked Strutt Studios to deepen what was already there rather than tear it up—and the result, at just 36 square metres, is a small retail interior that trusts its materials to carry the story. The brief tracked a brand growing up.

Now, Fabio Fantolino has taken the conceit somewhere far more knowing with Lève Office Bar.

Tucked into the forested hills of Austerlitz, New York, this 91-square-metre cabin by Brooklyn studio Of Possible was never meant to be just a retreat for writing and solitude, or an occasional guest house for visiting friends and family. It was commissioned by two Manhattan psychoanalysts whose previous building experience had left them oddly disconnected from their own bucolic property.

Rooted in picnic culture, Mesura’s playful conversation pit for Vipp was accessed by a swimming pool ladder. Royal Copenhagen revived the historic Triton dinnerware collection, originally created in 1976 by the avant-garde Danish artist and goldsmith Arje Griegst. ‘The heart of living’ by Tekla at Charlottenborg Palace explored the history and craftsmanship of Scandinavian patchwork quilts and traditional 19th-century Swedish box beds.

When two designers spend the better part of a decade imagining what they might build together, the result tends to carry a certain charge. Fitzroy—a transformed terrace in Sydney’s Surry Hills, on Gadigal Land—is exactly that: the first collaboration between Christine Rose Design and Studio Liu, two emerging studios whose founders, Christine and Louise, first crossed paths nearly ten years ago at another practice.

Florim and Matteo Thun have been circling the same idea for years now: that a hard-fired ceramic surface can carry the warmth, texture and quiet imperfection of something made by hand. With SensiTerre, the latest chapter in their long-running collaboration, that idea finds its most tactile expression yet. The collection grows out of the Sensi family Yellowtrace first covered w few years back, but its real origin story is lovelier.

Twelve months after their Copenhagen debut, Design By Them was back at 3daysofdesign—and the encore was anything but a victory lap. The Sydney studio took over Dronningens Tværgade 19 in the heart of the city, marking over 18 years of Australian design with five new releases and a supporting cast of DBT staples. What we love about this outing is the line-up.

A few years ago, Carl Pickering stumbled—entirely by chance—on a piece I’d written about the furniture he and his partner Claudio Lazzarini designed for Marta Sala Éditions, and left the warmest note thanking us for it. Which makes it slightly ridiculous that it’s taken me this long to circle back to Lazzarini Pickering Architetti. Theirs is one of those quietly towering practices that lets four decades of work do the talking, while younger, more PR-fluent names dominate the feeds.
