Global Growth Holds Firm, but the Margin for Error Is Shrinking
By Chantip @Adobe Stock The global economy is proving resilient in 2026, with Wood Mackenzie raising its 2026 global growth forecast to 2.5% and expecting 3.0% growth in 2027. The outlook is being supported by energy supply adjustments and a strong AI investment boom, particularly in the U.S. and Asia. But the outlook hinges on the Strait of Hormuz reopening to normal energy transit.
Iran-Backed Houthis Move Closer to Critical Shipping Route
By H @Adobe Stock Houthi forces have reached Perim Island at the entrance to Yemen’s Bab el-Mandeb Strait and captured the nearby coastal town of Dhubab, according to Yemeni government sources cited by Reuters. The moves give the Iran-aligned group a stronger position near one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints. The advance follows the withdrawal of Saudi-backed Yemeni forces from Perim and comes as the Houthis expand their presence along Yemen’s Red Sea coast.
