Your First Byline

Courtesy of Uwa Ede-Osifo What is your current job? I am a general assignment reporter for The Guardian US with a focus on the West Coast. What was your first byline? My first byline was at NBC News Digital. For the NBCBLK vertical, I wrote about a Broadway play Ain’t No’ Mo’ which was facing closure two weeks after its debut. The team shored up support (successfully) for an extended run on social media. At first, I had wondered if the premature closure was owing to a lack of diversity on Broadway.

I’m a justice reporter at NOTUS, where I do investigative work writing about government security forces and ongoing court battles that track our rapidly changing political landscape. What was your first byline? My first byline was technically some silly Nintendo 64 video game review in middle school.

What is your current job? I’m a national immigration reporter for the Guardian US. I focus on how immigration enforcement reshapes lives and communities across the US – investigating family separations within the immigration system, rights violations in the deportation program and how the militarized raids have changed cities. What was your first byline?

What is your current job? I’m editor of the Tennessee Lookout, a nonprofit, nonpartisan news outlet that covers Tennessee politics, policy and government. We are part of the States Newsroom network that has 39 outlets total like the Lookout under its umbrella. It’s literally the best job I’ve ever had. What was your first byline? From the second grade on, I always knew I wanted to write for newspapers. When I was 15, I approached my local newspaper -- the Review Appeal in Franklin, Tennessee.

I’m also an adjunct instructor at CUNY’s Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism. What was your first byline? In undergrad, I had a number of internships — helping curate Chicago’s LGBTQ film festival, event production for a fashion and art organization, and working as an EA at the city’s luxury glossy mag.

What is your current job? Senior Reporter at S&P Global Energy covering power and renewables finance What was your first byline? My second journalism internship was at what used to be The Times-Picayune in my hometown of New Orleans. That summer, I split my time between the business and lifestyle bureaus and ended up writing a lot about the city’s recovery post-Katrina. It was especially meaningful to tell those stories after losing my home in 2005.

What is your current job? Outgoing segment producer at MS NOW, working for “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “The Briefing with Jen Psaki.” I am being laid off effective July 10. Leads on jobs in PR, communications, progressive media, and sports media welcome. I am also author of “I’m Curious,” a newsletter on sports, primarily women’s soccer. What was your first byline?

We work with Crestron technology and facilitate in person and hybrid meetings under the National Institute of Health umbrella. What was your first byline? My first byline was for the Hyattsville Life & Times in 2013. I don’t remember the specific story.
