BUHERA – Nine people drowned early Friday morning when a commuter omnibus rolled into Ruti Dam in Buhera, Manicaland province, after apparently losing its brakes while loading passengers. The driver was outside loading luggage at the time and was not among those swept into the water.

HARARE – Four artisanal miners have been confirmed dead after rescuers reached their position following an overnight mine shaft collapse in Zvimba, authorities said. The four had been trapped underground since around midnight when a shaft collapsed at Rowdy Boys Mine. Rescue teams worked for hours before confirming that none of the miners had survived.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – A man arrested in Johannesburg on Friday who is suspected of murdering his wife and two daughters in Britain ​bought an unlicensed gun, possibly to kill himself, South ‌African police said. Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, 45, a British citizen of Zimbabwean heritage, appeared in a Johannesburg magistrate’s court on Monday and was remanded in ​custody until July 22, for authorities to establish whether ​he is in South Africa legally.
