An Orangeburg County man is behind bars charged with sexually assaulting a woman after allegedly breaking into her home.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office arrested Damien Oliver, 33, of Santee, on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, first-degree burglary, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
Richard Walker with the OCSO says Oliver was taken into custody after a Santee teenage said a man broke into a home where she lived with her mother. The teen said that around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, June 14, she awoke to find someone inside the home yelling demands about money.
We're learning the teen's mother ran into her room but was dragged out by a man wearing what appeared to be a pair of gray boxers on his head. The man fled when he was told law enforcement was on the way.
The man returned brandishing a screwdriver he may have possibly used to break into the house, according to reports. The adult female said the man grabbed her again, sexually assaulting her while threatening her with the screwdriver.
The Santee man was taken before a Orangeburg County magistrate judge who deferred any bond consideration to a circuit court judge.
We're told Tuesday's hearing was to ensure Oliver was informed of his rights.
