¿500 cuadrangulares? ¿600?
500 home runs? 600? How high can Ohtani go?
Three hundred home runs is just the start for Shohei Ohtani. So what's the finish? Now the question is: How far can he take it? How many home runs will Ohtani hit in his Major League career? Can he get to 500 home runs? Or … dare we say it … 600? Let's run some numbers, with the help of MLB data guru Tom Tango. To figure out Ohtani's chances of getting to the big career home run milestones, we took 20 of the best player comparisons, based on his age and his MVP-level home run hitting.
Celebrating the foundation stones of our nation: America as an idea | David Adler Original
The recent experience of delivering in Massachusetts a series of lectures on the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence, including a session on the North Bridge, where the first shots were fired — “the shot heard ‘round the world” — in defense of Concord, in what was referred to as “The Cause,” deepened my appreciation for the vision, ideals, ingenuity and courage of those who risked their lives to declare independence and create, eventually, a new nation.

How ace found his groove ... by calling his own pitches
Something obviously clicked for Logan Webb in June. Not only did Webb lead the Majors with a 0.71 ERA last month, he went at least seven innings in all five of his starts. Workhorse Webb re-emerged for the Giants in full force. While Webb was out hurt in May, the Giants traded away his longtime batterymate, and elite defensive catcher, Patrick Bailey.

Declaration of Independence: Asserting a new theory of government | David Adler

James Madison: The president may pervert his administration into a scheme of peculation and oppression | David Adler

You Can't Say James Madison Didn't Warn Us
James Madison’s prescient warning about a president who engineers a scheme of deep-seated and pervasive corruption, grounded in self-dealing to enrich himself and strengthen his ties to law-breaking loyalists through arbitrary acts that violate the Constitution and republican principles, resonates across the nation at this juncture in our history as Americans learn more details about President Donald Trump’s underhanded operations.
'Perfect contact?' These hitters are masters of it
But what about the other half of the game? What about the hitters? These new stats aren't just about hitters missing the ball by a mile. We can also use them to find the hitters whose swing timing is the best. For that, we want to look at hitters' perfect contact rate. "Perfect contact" happens when a swing is in the right place at the right time. There are three criteria: The hitter has to be on time, not swinging early or late.
8 of the nastiest pitches on new miss distance leaderboard
The nastiest pitchers in baseball miss bats by a lot. Which pitchers get the most extreme whiffs, and with what pitch types? Which pitchers disrupt hitters' timing the most? Which pitchers induce swings in the wrong location the most? There are some really good names on those leaderboards. Let's take a look at some of the aces whose signature pitches are big whiff-inducing weapons.

From suicide pact to Faustian bargain to the art of the deal: Bowing to presidential power | David Adler
The evolution in America of rationales for the cascading growth of presidential power, which began in earnest in the post-war world and followed a trajectory through the expression of the Imperial Presidency before reaching new heights in President Donald Trump’s authoritarian pretensions, has long found traction in the misappropriation and misuse of Justice Robert H.

Burns has two weapons, and batters have no hope
This story was excerpted from Mark Sheldon’s Reds Beat newsletter, with MLB.com's David Adler subbing in on this edition. To read the full newsletter, click here. And subscribe to get it regularly in your inbox. The way he's pitching right now, Burns is rolling toward his first career All-Star Game. A 7-1 record, 2.05 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 70 1/3 innings will do that for you. About a month ago, we broke down how Burns dominates even though he's basically a two-pitch pitcher.

The best Tommy John success stories
Tommy John surgery is the most famous medical procedure in all of sports, and even though the road to recovery is long for the players who have it, the surgery has a lasting legacy because it has saved countless careers. Thousands of pitchers have had the ulnar collateral ligament in their pitching elbow reconstructed since Dr. Frank Jobe first operated on Tommy John himself on Sept. 25, 1974.

Trump's slush fund reflects concentration of power
OPINION - One of the grave consequences for American Constitutionalism of the untrammeled concentration of power in the hands of President Donald Trump - the putative goal of Project 2025--is his total control over the Department of Justice. There is no separation between President Trump and his Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, his former criminal defense lawyer, no independence between the White House and the DOJ.

'He's a menace!' It's JK Simmons vs. Spider-Man at Citi Field
Simmons plays Jameson, Spider-Man's No. 1 hater, in the early-2000s Tobey Maguire "Spider-Man" movies and in the current Marvel Cinematic Universe. Turning around to see Spider-Man in the Citi Field seats, Simmons put on an Oscar-worthy performance in character as Jameson, shaking his fist at his nemesis and turning back to the camera with a scowl. He's a menace to the entire Citi! With J.
Wheeler keeps evolving, and it's all in the angles
A good Major League starting pitcher has to figure out how to neutralize the platoon advantage. Zack Wheeler is a great starting pitcher. And over the years, he has gotten very, very effective at getting left-handed hitters out. That is a big part of Wheeler's evolution over the course of his career. In his early years, he struggled against lefties. Now he dominates them. This season, Wheeler has faced 72 left-handed hitters and has held them to a .156 batting average and .470 OPS.

Young playoff stars square off as Jays-Yanks take rivalry to MLB Network
It's phenom vs. phenom. Postseason sensation vs. postseason sensation. Schlittler vs. Yesavage. Tonight is the marquee matchup of the Yankees and Blue Jays' 2025 American League Division Series rematch: Cam Schlittler and Trey Yesavage going toe to toe. "I think it's fun," Schlittler said. "When I look at who I'm facing that day, that doesn't affect how I'm going to go about my day and how I'm going to prepare for my start. But sometimes you notice." Both of these pitchers are young.

Does Roki Sasaki throw a forkball or a splitter? ... Why not both?
For a while, whether you called it a forkball or a splitter, Roki Sasaki threw one signature offspeed pitch. You could quibble over what name to give it. You might think that it fit under the broader "splitter" umbrella -- the pitch that Sasaki's fellow Dodgers Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto throw so well.
He's only a rookie. But his 'hold-your-ground' approach is already elite
A lot of baseball dads tell their kids to hit line drives right back up the middle. Not Kevin McGonigle's. "Growing up, my dad always taught me to pull the ball down the line," McGonigle said. "The whole contact thing came as I grew older in the game." And that's how one of the most well-balanced young hitters in the big leagues built his foundation. The Tigers' star rookie has a hitting profile in the mold of a Mookie Betts or Alex Bregman.
