What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a cadet reporter at The Queensland Times in Ipswich, QLD Aus. Stories included UFOs, dogshows and plans for a Bibleworld theme park.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yeah, I used to have one when I was a kid. I actually used it two. That was before my family got a Commodore 64.

How is social media changing news?

The speed of news continues to increase. Twitter is a great way to spread long-form news too. I hope more people take time out for these.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Peter Parker

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To be a storyteller. To hopefully expose people to the lives of others and the truly exciting stories that are missed on the evening news.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#foxnews - Those two words together - hilarious.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer to have some flexibility in terms of form. Through multimedia storytelling we can come at things from a variety ways.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

A pen, notepad, a Canon 60D DSLR, a bunch of cheap lenses, a Macbook Pro, Premiere Pro CS6, FCP 7, FCP X, After Effects CS6, Photoshop CS6.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter. Definitely Twitter. It's the most powerful and useful social network at the moment. I use the oldschool Tweetdeck with it.

Who do you wish followed you?

Kim Jong Un. I think he would dig my taste in movies... and theme parks.

Why did you become a journalist?

I'm not sure I remember now. I think it seemed like an interesting job. I wanted to write about people. People are interesting.
