IS ‘murdered nine by bulldozer’
After prayers, the traders of Bab al-Tob market in Iraq's second city, Mosul, formed a crowd around nine men lying on the street. Among the prostrate men was an Iraqi soldier and an alleged Kurdish spy. A bulldozer approached and slowly ran over the prisoners, crushing them utterly. Istanbul - Far from the long and porous border he is said to have crossed to enter Turkey, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives in the ancient heart of Istanbul on Tuesday. Near the Blue Mosque in Sultanahmet Square, the historic tourist centre of the Bosphorus city, flames engulfed one side of the ancient Egyptian obelisk of Theodosius as a man later identified by Turkey as Saudi-born Nabil al-Fadli, 28, triggered his device near a group of German tourists.

Virginia - Neither Alison Parker, a local television reporter, nor Adam Ward, her cameraman, on Wednesday morning, noticed the approach of a one-time colleague called Bryce Williams at the shopping mall on Virginia's Smith Mountain Lake. Just after sunrise, the 24-year-old Parker and Ward, 27, were interviewing, live, Vicki Gardner, of the local Regional Chamber of Commerce, for a breakfast segment on tourism.
Kagame - A president for life?
Frank Habineza, leader of the sole party opposing President Paul Kagame's attempt to extend his grip on power in Rwanda on Friday, has good reason to be cautious. When his Democratic Green Party attempted, and failed, to enter presidential elections five years ago, Mr Habineza's deputy, André Kagwa Rwisereka, went missing. His body was later found near a river, almost decapitated. Mr Rwisereka's family blamed the government for the killing. The government vehemently denied that.

London - Mohamed Mohamud, also known as Dulyadin or Gamadhere, is a teacher of terror. Well known to Kenyan authorities before Friday's attack, he is reported to have been a military commander, based in Mogadishu, and is thought to have become the man responsible for leading al-Shabaab's attacks within Kenya. Last month he was named the person who had sent 12 terrorists to plot an attack against the Kenyan parliament in Nairobi. He is also listed as being subject to asset freezes in Britain.
