Summary Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a long‐lasting skin disease with flares of painful boils in areas where skin meets skin, such as the armpits and groins. It affects somewhere between 1 and 40 people out of 1000 worldwide. When trying to measure the effect of a treatment in a clinical trial, so‐called ‘outcome measurement instruments’ are used. These are ways of estimating ‘how much’ disease is present.
A randomised controlled trial of phenylephrine and noradrenaline boluses for treatment of postspinal hypotension during elective caesarean section
Summary Phenylephrine is currently the vasopressor of choice during elective caesarean section, but it can cause reflex bradycardia. Noradrenaline, a potent α‐agonist and weak β‐agonist, may be associated with a lower incidence of bradycardia. However, comparative information is limited.

Obesity is linked to both hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), in which intermittent obstruction of pharyngeal airways results in hypoxia during sleep. Shared immunologic mechanisms may portend risk of OSA among HS patients.

Towards global consensus on core outcomes for hidradenitis suppurativa research: an update from the HISTORIC consensus meetings I and II
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is an uncommon skin condition that causes painful swollen red bumps in the folds of the body (underarms, under breasts, groin, and buttocks). It can be mistaken for bacterial abscess or boils, but HS is not caused by bacteria. HS occurs in about 0.1–1% people in the US and Europe. The authors include people with HS, dermatologists, surgeons, members of the pharmaceutical industry and medical regulators from 13 countries and four continents.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, recurrent, and painful disease in which there is inflammation in areas of the apocrine sweat glands. These glands are found mainly in the armpits and groins. Within HS there may be a blockage of the hair follicles. This causes a mixture of boil‐like lumps, areas leaking pus, and scarring. Despite a common belief that tobacco smoking increases the risk of developing the disease, the evidence linking the two is controversial.

A core outcomes set (COS) is an agreed minimum set of outcomes that should be measured and reported in all clinical trials for a specific condition. Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) has no agreed‐upon COS. A central aspect in the COS development process is to identify a set of candidate outcome domains from a long list of items.
Incidence of hidradenitis suppurativa among tobacco smokers: a population‐based retrospective analysis in the U.S.A.
We identified 3 924 310 tobacco smokers, which included 7860 patients newly diagnosed with HS. Tobacco smokers diagnosed with HS were most commonly aged 18–39 years (3795 of 7860; 48·3%), women (5640 of 7860; 71·8%), white (5200 of 7860; 66·2%) and those with body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30 (5690 of 7860; 72·4%). Overall incidence of HS was 0·20% (7860 of 3 924 310) among tobacco smokers and 0·11% (8430 of 8 027 790) among nonsmokers (P < 0·001).

Prevalence of hidradenitis suppurativa among patients with Down syndrome: a population‐based cross‐sectional analysis
To determine whether patients with DS have a higher prevalence of HS, and whether the diagnosis of HS occurs at an earlier age for these patients. A cross‐sectional analysis was performed for a population sample of 11 936 patients with DS and 16 813 290 patients without DS. The primary outcome was the diagnosis of HS. Systemized Nomenclature of Medicine–Clinical Terms were used to identify patients with DS and HS.

High-speed broadband to be a legal right in the UK by 2020
UK.Gov report that if you are a citizen of the United Kingdom, you will be entitled to a high-speed broadband connection (at least 10 Mbps to be precise) because the government has announced to consider it as a legal right from the year 2020. This effectively means that service providers must offer access to anyone who requests it. They are calling it the #Universal Service Obligation (USO), and it is expected to be formulated in detail in the months to come.

We thank Saleem et al., for providing commentary on a relevant aspect of statistical analysis and interpretation as it relates to our study, the primary objective for which was to assess the directionality and strength of relationship between tobacco smoking (TS) and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS).1 To our knowledge, no previous population-based study has evaluated the effect of TS on actual incidence of disease.

SNOMED-CT terms were used to identify patients with DS and HS. We used logistic regression models and significant interaction terms to evaluate the relationship between DS and HS.
