Fashion or Proof? A Challenge for Pacific Anthropology
Keywords Pacific anthropology, origin of mankind Abstract This article is a call to Pacific anthropologists to write the story of the origin of mankind in the Pacific a bit larger and perhaps to look scientifically for additional explanations. Is it possible that the early diffusionists may have gotten some things right, albeit for the wrong reasons? Recommended Citation Thompson, A. Keith (2014) "Fashion or Proof?

Joseph Smith and the Doctrine of Sealing
Keywords Joseph Smith, sealing, marriage practices Abstract Brian Hales has observed that we cannot understand Joseph Smith’s marriage practices in Nauvoo without understanding the related theology. However, he implies that we are hampered in coming to a complete understanding of that theology because the only primary evidence we have of that theology is the revelation now recorded as Section 132 of the Doctrine and Covenants and a few entries in William Clayton’s journal.
Keywords apostate religion, Book of Mormon, missionaries, synagogues Abstract Nephite missionaries in the first century BC had significant difficulty preaching the gospel among Nephites and Lamanites who followed Zoramite and Nehorite teaching. Both of these groups built synagogues and other places of worship suggesting that some of their beliefs originated in Israelite practice, but both denied the coming or the necessity of a Messiah.
Missourian Efforts to Extradite Joseph Smith and the Ethics of Governor Thomas Reynolds of Missouri
Keywords Misssouri, extradite Joseph Smith, ethics, governor Thomas Reynolds Abstract This is the second of two articles discussing Missouri’s requisitions to extradite Joseph Smith to face criminal charges and the Prophet’s recourse to English habeas corpus practice to defend himself.
The Character and Knowledge of Mary, the Mother of Christ
Keywords Mary the Mother of Christ, Virgin Mary, Christian faith Abstract The Virgin Mary is arguably the archetype of the virtuous woman and even the divine feminine on earth, but we know very little about her. She is remembered in Christianity in a variety of ways including with cathedrals built in her honor. Though many seek her intercession when they pray, that does not seem to accord with Luke’s account of her self- effacing and private character.
The Brass Plates: Can Modern Scholarship Help Identify Their Contents?
Keywords brass plates, Book of Mormon, Latter-day Saints, ancient American scripture Abstract The Book of Mormon contains little information about what the Brass Plates contain. Nephi said it was a larger record than the Hebrew Bible brought to America by the Gentiles. But it could not have contained the records of Old Testament prophets who wrote after Lehi’s party left Jerusalem or the New Testament.
Overflow metabolism provides a selective advantage to Escherichia coli in mixed cultures - Annals of Microbiology
Abstract It has previously been shown that organic acids produced by Escherichia coli suppress the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in co-cultures under conditions of glucose excess, due to overflow metabolism. Inactivation of genes involved in central carbon metabolism favours fermentation of glucose over respiration and therefore increases production of organic acid by-products such as acetate and lactate.
A Landmark Paper That Introduced Proteasome Inhibition in Myeloma
A first mention of the proteasome in multiple myeloma appears in 1993, describing elevated levels of the proteasome in hematologic malignancy (1). By 1999, scientists at a small biotech company, ProScript Inc.

Gene expression and wildlife health: varied interpretations based on perspective
1. Introduction Marine habitats worldwide are facing unprecedented challenges due to expanded industrial development and associated contaminants (Álvarez-Muñoz et al., 2016), resource extraction (Pauly et al., 1998; Herbert-Read et al., 2022), and climate change (IPCC, 2022), all of which have the potential to substantially degrade and alter biological resources in coastal ecosystems.

Editorial: Soil-microbial interactions
Recent perspectives from various panels of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN), in particular the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), have reiterated that soil, particularly arable soil, the covering that facilitates ecosystem services critical to sustaining life, and the majority of soil resources are at best in only fair, poor or very poor condition (FAO and ITPS, 2015; FAO and UNEP, 2021).

"Chemosynthetic microorganisms in leaching sulfide minerals" by A. Keith Jameson
Home > Theses and Dissertations > 8240 Title Chemosynthetic microorganisms in leaching sulfide minerals Abstract This investigation showed that a single bacterium was capable of sulfide oxidation in exposed ore bodies. This single bacterium was isolated and characterized. It exhibited different characteristics than any previously known organism. It was found to be a chemosynthetic autotroph. An optimum nutrient concentration was determined for pyrite oxidation.
