Extreme events in frequency-swept semiconductor lasers
We analyze a delay differential equation model for a frequency-swept semiconductor laser and demonstrate existence of extreme events in its dynamics, with probabilities heavily dependent on the sweep rate. The extreme events appear even in absence of any noise in the system and do not exhibit significant dependence on its presence. We investigate the problem numerically and show that intensity dynamics of these events are highly localized in the filter detuning space.
Breakdown of the drift-diffusion model for transverse spin transport in a disordered Pt film
Spin-accumulation and spin-current profiles are calculated for a disordered Pt film subjected to an in-plane electric current within the nonequilibrium Green's function approach. In the bulklike region of the sample, this approach captures the intrinsic spin Hall effect found in other calculations. Near the surfaces, the results reveal qualitative differences with the results of the widely used spin-diffusion model, even when the boundary conditions are modified to try to account for them.
Subharmonic locking and frequency combs in frequency-swept semiconductor lasers
Abstract We analyze a delay differential equation model for a swept semiconductor laser and demonstrate existence of various periodic solutions that are subharmonically locked to the sweep rate. These solutions provide optical frequency combs in spectral domain.
Optical square-wave generation in a semiconductor laser with optoelectronic feedback
Abstract We report self-sustained optical square-wave (SW) generation in a semiconductor laser diode subjected to delayed optoelectronic feedback on its injection current ($J$). This optoelectronic oscillator relies on nonlinear effects present in both the laser diode and in the optoelectronic feedback loop through amplifier saturation. The repetition rate of the SW is an integer multiple of the inverse of the loop delay, while the duty cycle can be tuned with $J$.
Asymmetrical performance of a laser-based reservoir computer with optoelectronic feedback
Abstract We numerically quantify the performance of a photonic reservoir computer based on a semiconductor laser subject to high-pass filtered optoelectronic feedback. We assess its memory capacity, computational ability, and performance in solving a multi-step prediction task.
