Transient temperature dynamics of reservoirs connected through an open quantum system
The dynamics of open quantum systems connected with several reservoirs attract great attention due to their importance in quantum optics, biology, quantum thermodynamics, transport phenomena, etc. In many problems, the Born approximation is applicable, which implies that the influence of the open quantum system on the reservoirs can be neglected. However, in the case of long-time dynamics or mesoscopic reservoirs, the reverse influence can be crucial.
Characterization of bright betatron radiation generated by direct laser acceleration of electrons in plasma of near critical density
Laser-driven sources of synchrotron-like (betatron) radiation are characterized by very short time duration, small size, directed emission, and extreme brightness.1 Thanks to these qualities, such radiation sources are promising for a number of advanced applications, such as high-resolution x-ray radiography and absorption spectrometry of ultra-fast processes (e.g., in inertial confinement fusion2), shock wave and implosion research,3–6 medicine,7,8 and biology.9,10 The betatron radiation...
Ultra-high-pressure generation in the relativistic transparency regime in laser-irradiated nanowire arrays
Abstract We show that an ultra-high-pressure plasma can be generated when an aligned nanowire is irradiated by a laser with relativistic transparent intensity. Using a particle-in-cell simulation, we demonstrate that the expanded plasma following the z pinch becomes relativistically transparent and compressed longitudinally by the oscillating component of the ponderomotive force.
Energy-Conserving Theory of the Blowout Regime of Plasma Wakefield
Abstract We present a self-consistent theory of strongly nonlinear plasma wakefield (bubble or blowout regime of the wakefield) based on the energy conservation approach. Such wakefields are excited in plasmas by intense laser or particle beam drivers and are characterized by the expulsion of plasma electrons from the propagation axis of the driver.
Cross-Filament Stochastic Acceleration of Electrons in Kilojoule Picosecond Laser Interactions with Near-Critical-Density Plasmas
Abstract Understanding the interaction of a kilojoule picosecond laser pulse with long-scale-length preplasma or homogeneous near-critical-density (NCD) plasma is crucial for guiding experiments at national short-pulse laser facilities. Using full three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations, we demonstrate that in this regime, cross-filament stochastic acceleration is an important mechanism that contributes to the production of superponderomotive high-flux electron beams.
Electron dynamics in twisted light modes of relativistic intensity
In the 1990s, Allen et al. reported in Ref. 11. L. Allen, M. W. Beijersbergen, R. Spreeuw, and J. Woerdman, Phys. Rev. A 45, 8185 (1992). https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevA.45.8185 that optical beams with helical phase fronts like, for instance, Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) laser modes carry a well-defined orbital angular momentum (OAM) along their propagation axis.
