Excess heat capacity in magnetically ordered Ce heavy-fermion metals
We study the magnetic heat capacity of a series of magnetically ordered Ce-based heavy-fermion materials, which show an anomalous T3 heat capacity in excess of the phonon contribution in many materials. For compounds for which magnon models have been worked out, we show that the local-moment magnon heat capacity derived from the measured magnon spectra underestimates the experimental specific heat.

Proximate spin liquid and fractionalization in the triangular antiferromagnet KYbSe2 - Nature Physics
Abstract The Heisenberg triangular-lattice quantum spin liquid and its phase transitions to nearby magnetic orders have received much theoretical attention, but clear experimental manifestations of these states are rare. Here we demonstrate that a spin-half delafossite material, namely, KYbSe2, shows close proximity to the triangular-lattice Heisenberg quantum spin liquid. Using neutron scattering, we identify a diffuse continuum with a sharp lower bound within the measured spectra.

Quantum wake dynamics in Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chains - Nature Communications
Abstract Traditional spectroscopy, by its very nature, characterizes physical system properties in the momentum and frequency domains. However, the most interesting and potentially practically useful quantum many-body effects emerge from local, short-time correlations.
Dirac Magnons, Nodal Lines, and Nodal Plane in Elemental Gadolinium
Abstract We investigate the magnetic excitations of elemental gadolinium (Gd) using inelastic neutron scattering, showing that Gd is a Dirac magnon material with nodal lines at K and nodal planes at half integer ℓ. We find an anisotropic intensity winding around the K-point Dirac magnon cone, which is interpreted to indicate Berry phase physics. Using linear spin wave theory calculations, we show the nodal lines have nontrivial Berry phases, and topological surface modes.
Beyond magnons in ${\mathrm{Nd}}_{2}{\mathrm{ScNbO}}_{7}$: An Ising pyrochlore antiferromagnet with all-in--all-out order and random fields
Abstract We report the low-temperature magnetic properties of Nd3+ pyrochlore Nd2ScNbO7. Susceptibility and magnetization show an easy-axis moment, and heat capacity reveals a phase transition to long-range order at TN=371(2) mK with a fully recovered ΔS=Rln(2), 53% of it recovered for T>TN. Elastic neutron scattering shows a long-range all-in all-out magnetic order with low-Q diffuse elastic scattering.
Witnessing entanglement in quantum magnets using neutron scattering
Abstract We demonstrate how quantum entanglement can be directly witnessed in the quasi-1D Heisenberg antiferromagnet KCuF3. We apply three entanglement witnesses—one tangle, two tangle, and quantum Fisher information—to its inelastic neutron spectrum and compare with spectra simulated by finite-temperature density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) and classical Monte Carlo methods. We find that each witness provides direct access to entanglement.
Detection of Kardar-Parisi-Zhang hydrodynamics in a quantum Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain
Abstract Classical hydrodynamics is a remarkably versatile description of the coarse-grained behaviour of many-particle systems once local equilibrium has been established1. The form of the hydrodynamical equations is determined primarily by the conserved quantities present in a system.
Orientation dependence of the magnetic phase diagram of ${\mathrm{Yb}}_{2}{\mathrm{Ti}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{7}$
Abstract In the quest to realize a quantum spin liquid (QSL), magnetic long-range order is hardly welcome. Yet it can offer deep insights into a complex world of strong correlations and fluctuations. Much hope was placed in the cubic pyrochlore Yb2Ti2O7 as a putative U(1) QSL but a new class of ultrapure single crystals make it abundantly clear that the stoichiometric compound is a ferromagnet.
Counterrotating magnetic order in the honeycomb layers of ${\mathrm{NaNi}}_{2}{\mathrm{BiO}}_{6\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\delta}}$
Abstract We report the magnetic structure and electronic properties of the honeycomb antiferromagnet NaNi2BiO5.66. We find magnetic order with moments along the c axis for temperatures below Tc1=6.3(1)K and then in the honeycomb plane for T<Tc2=4.8(1)K with a counterrotating pattern and an ordering wave vector q=(13,13,0.15(1)). Density functional theory and electron spin resonance indicate this is high-spin Ni3+ magnetism near a high to low spin transition.
Continuum of quantum fluctuations in a three-dimensional <i>S</i> = 1 Heisenberg magnet
Conventional crystalline magnets are characterized by symmetry breaking and normal modes of excitation called magnons, with quantized angular momentum ħ. Neutron scattering correspondingly features extra magnetic Bragg diffraction at low temperatures and dispersive inelastic scattering associated with single magnon creation and annihilation.
