21 Lessons Learned in 2021: AT Edition
Dec 30, 2021 : A Wild Jocelot Appalachian Trail Goodbye to 2021 and Hello to 2022 I can honestly say I cannot believe this year is already coming to an end. It feels like just months ago I was preparing for an adventure of a lifetime, but that adventure has come and gone. So has this entire year. Funny enough when you spend 202 days of the year hiking in the woods it’s easy to feel like time has disappeared, because it has.
From Day Hiking to Thru Hiking
Prior to setting foot on that Appalachian Trail I basically had zero experience. I had backpacked 65 miles of the Long Trail about a year before that was it. I was a total noob. I was convinced that I had done enough research and I had learned everything I could possibly learn to prepare myself for this giant adventure. I watched all the youtube videos, read all the articles, researched all the gear and read all the books I could get my hands on.
What's your name? What's your journey?
Disclaimer: Radio Silence It has been over 7 months since my last post. Seven months of anticipating this very message. I failed to blog about my thru hike while I was on my journey. I was excited to have the opportunity to share my adventure with you all but when it came down to it, I just couldn’t do it. I couldn’t bring myself to spend my time in town fooling around on my phone and ignoring the obvious. The obvious being that I was distracted by this “obligation” I had put on myself.
Three Lessons Learned Before Getting On Trail
Mar 18, 2021 : A Wild Jocelot Appalachian Trail Wow. It’s been a wild time. Let’s get a few things out of the way. Forgive my absence over the last few weeks. Life has been throwing me all over the place and I can finally sit down and reflect on wtf is going on in my world. I didn’t anticipate to be here right now on a computer typing this, yet here I am. I did the thing. I moved out. My cats went to their temporary homes. I packed my bag. I got in a car.
2021 AT Gear List: My Top Five Before the Trail
Mar 4, 2021 : A Wild Jocelot Appalachian Trail I’m totally the person who has spent hours reading through others gear lists. I have probably spent too much precious toilet time stressed out comparing and wondering why someone chose what instead of finishing my business. I foolishly thought all along how simple these lists seemed and I overlooked a small factor. Making a gear list is really annoying.
The Stress of Anticipation: 17 Days To Go
Feb 22, 2021 : A Wild Jocelot Appalachian Trail Checking In: Okay, if I have to be completely honest with myself I have to realize I am low key freaking out. I have been counting down the days since around mid January and now I am 17 days away. Seventeen days? Seems like a long time, but the reality is that I’ve been waiting my whole life and 17 days is just a blink of the eye. I am finding myself questioning a lot of the decisions I have made thus far.
