Nietzsche on art as the good will to appearance
1 INTRODUCTION The relation between art and truth has been a staple issue in aesthetics since its inception, and Nietzsche's contribution to it has been interpreted from a variety of angles. According to one of these, Nietzsche regards art and truth as antithetical: art falsifies, he holds, and is of value (to life) at least partly because of that. The present paper contests that interpretation, and it does so, among other reasons, as an exercise in self-correction.
On Generalized Additive Models for Representation of Solar EUV Irradiance
1 Introduction Accurately describing space weather effects on the upper atmosphere is of critical importance for space situational awareness, satellite collision avoidance, safeguarding the electrical power grid, and protecting astronauts (Bussy-Virat et al., 2018).
More than $5M to improve solar storm forecasts | Michigan Engineering
by Nicole Casal Moore Michigan Engineering September 1, 2020 U-Michigan researchers play lead roles in national effort funded by NSF, NASA.| Medium Read Enlarge IMAGE: The spectacular aurora borealis, or the “northern lights,” over Canada is sighted from the International Space Station near the highest point of its orbital path. Episode 20: The One Where We Offend Everyone, A Star Wars Special
In this episode, we basically spend the entire time talking about the latest Star Wars movie: The Last Jedi. Partially sponsored by NSF (even if they don't fully endorse that!) If you want to go to a really good school, try out University of Michigan or Eastern Michigan University. This podcast episode was edited by the mighty Kenny Carlsen. Thanks Kenny! The song on the podcast is "So far, I have not found the science" by the truly awesome band Soul Coughing.
Is it better to live on the moon or on Mars? A scientific investigation
Elon Musk wants humans to live on Mars. NASA wants, at the very least, to send some astronauts over to the Red Planet to check it out. But the Trump administration has recently signaled that it’s more interested in sending astronauts back to the moon. As a space science professor, I believe this is the perfect opportunity to revive an important debate: If humans needed to beat a retreat from planet Earth, would it be better to live on Mars, or on the moon?
Improving Forecasting Ability of GITM Using Data‐Driven Model Refinement
1.2 Thermal Conductivity in the Upper Atmosphere Thermal conductivity uncertainty is a serious issue in physics-based models (Banks & Kockarts, 1973; Pawlowski & Ridley, 2009; Schunk & Nagy, 2004). Most of the literature describes thermal conductivity in a laboratory setting where it is expressed as a function of temperature alone for specific species (Vargaftik et al., 1993).
