Never Go Full Kamala
Senator Kamala Harris (D – CA, as if that needs to be said) apparently feels free to be moronical. First, she has said that she is receptive to restoring the Boston Marathon bomber’s voting rights (she’s joined in this with that other illustrious light of reason, Bernie Sanders, although she’s since tried walking this back). Now, she’s touting her plan for executive orders related to firearms which she would implement if she were to be elected president.
A Joker and a Politician (But I Repeat Myself)
A Ukrainian comedian, television star, and lawyer has won their presidential election with 73% of the vote. Volodymyr Zelensky will take office in June, having defeated incumbent Petro Poroshenko. Ukraine, since the fall of the Soviet Union and its own independence in 1991, has been torn between close ties with Russia or closer ties with Europe, NATO, and the United States. Most of its history since the 1990s has been played out against this backdrop of East vs. West.
Terrorists Attack Christians Worshipping at Church in Sri Lanka
A series of terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka targeted Christians at Easter church services yesterday, along with hotels containing international travelers. Suicide bombers behind the attacks caused six explosions, killing at least 290 people and injuring at least 500. Another two bombers apparently detonated their bombs as they were attempting to evade police. A bomb was also found, and subsequently defused, at the country’s main airport in the capital of Colombo.
"It is Finished" - The Big Picture of the Bible - The Resurgent
The Apostle John records: When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:30) “It is finished.” To understand what exactly is finished, you have to step-back and look at the entire arc of the Scriptures, beginning in Genesis. In the very beginning, prior to the intrusion of sin into the world, God had walked in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve.
Restoring Our Lady
EJ Dickson at Rolling Stone magazine has published an article entitled “How Should France Rebuild Notre Dame?” The tweet sent out by Rolling Stone to promote the article includes a quote from Harvard architecture historian Patricio del Real who said: The building was so overburdened with meaning that its burning feels like an act of liberation.
Why the "Nones?" - The Resurgent
According to a recent survey and analysis by political scientist Ryan Burge, approximately 23% of Americans now identify as having no religion. These so-called “nones” are therefore tied with the percentage who identify as Christian evangelicals and Catholics. Self-identified believers who are not Christians come in next, followed by mainline Protestants.
Bibi Set to Return as Prime Minister of Israel
Parliamentary elections were held in Israel yesterday, with the main contenders for Prime Minister being Benjamin Netanyahu (“Bibi”) and Benny Gantz (see story from yesterday for more background on them and their parties). It now appears that Netanyahu is set to return to office for his 5th term as Prime Minister (it’s his 4th consecutive term, with an additional term being served in the late 1990’s).
To Bibi or Not to Bibi - That is the Question Facing Israel
Israelis go to the polls today to decide whether or not Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (known as “Bibi”) will be re-elected for his fifth term, or his challenger, Benny Gantz, will replace him. Netanyahu has been in office since 2009, having served a previous stint as Prime Minister from 1996 to 1999, and in other government offices throughout his career. He also served in the Israeli military from 1967 to 1973, fighting in the War of Attrition (1967 to 1970) and Yom Kippur War (1973).
Spartacus Should Stick to Swords
Self-proclaimed “Spartacus” Cory Booker, Democratic Senator from New Jersey and presidential candidate, exhibited his lack of knowledge of current U.S. firearms laws at a CNN town hall.
Fabuloso Fabiana - Venezuelan Opposition Leader's Wife Drums Up Support - The Resurgent
The wife of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó, Fabiana Rosales, has been captivating international audiences. The 26 year-old has been traveling to bolster support for Guaidó against current Venezuelan ruler Nicolas Maduro. She has visited Peru and Chile, and is currently in the United States to meet with Vice-President Pence, among others.
Eliminating the Electoral College would be the end of the Republic
Democrats and others have been making noise about eliminating the Electoral College for a few years now. Elizabeth Warren’s recent call to do so is just one among many. As a practical matter, the effort is currently centered around a “National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.” States that participate pledge to award their electoral college votes to the winner of the national popular vote in presidential elections.
Senator Gillibrand Smears Gun Companies
Presidential contender Kirsten Gillibrand, Democratic Senator from New York, defamed gun companies while speaking to reporters and supporters. The video is available below. Democrat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand claims without evidence that gun manfacturers oppose background checks because they want to sell guns to kids, terrorists, people who are gravely mentally ill, and violent convicted criminals.
Amid Chaos, American Diplomats Pulling out of Venezuela
Mike Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State, has announced that American diplomatic staff will leave Venezuela this week. Venezuela has been in the midst of increasing chaos. Last week, power outages hit the country and power has not been completely restored. Nicholas Maduro has blamed the outages on “criminals” and the U.S., but they are likely the result of years of neglect by an incompetent administration.
In the Dark - Venezuela Loses Power
Last night a power outage hit Venezuela, causing chaos and increased anger at Nicolas Maduro, titular “president” of the country. Maduro blamed the United States on the outage, saying that it was a form of “electrical war.” His government also blamed “right-wing extremists” on the outage. There is no proof that the outage was caused by anything other than mismanagement of the power system in the country under the Maduro regime.
Good Job News for Americans without College Degrees
At an economic forum at the White House yesterday, CEOs of a number of companies told President Trump that they are hiring an increasing percentage of workers who do not have college degrees. Apple and Lockheed Martin both stated that about half their hires last year did not have degrees, while IBM noted that there are strong opportunities for people without degrees. This is good news for people who choose paths other than college, such as training and employment in the skilled trades.
Reject a Despot? Not according to AOC
Democratic Socialist representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) refused to reject and denounce Venezuela’s current president Nicolas Maduro. She said: “I think that this is absolutely a complex issue. I think it’s important that we approach this very carefully.
The Exodus and the Transfiguration
Today is Transfiguration Sunday when we remember and celebrate the events related in the reading from Luke’s Gospel today. In this reading, Jesus takes Peter, John, and James up to a mountain to pray (Luke 9:28-36).
Pressure Increases on Venezuela's Maduro
On Monday, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence met in Colombia with a number of countries to discuss the current situation in Venezuela. All agreed that current Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro must be leave office, but there appears to be no consensus yet on how to make that occur and the use of military force appears unlikely. The U.S. is imposing additional sanctions as well as sending millions of dollars in aid to surrounding countries to assist them with caring for Venezuelan refugees.
Senate Democrats Worry Climate Change Will Kill Kids, as They Vote to Allow Kids to be Killed
I am skeptical of the hysterical claims regarding the irreversible impact man is having on the global climate for a number of reasons: Those claims are consistently being made by the same people who have tried for years, in different ways and with different approaches, to usurp more power from the individual and place it in the hands of government. Climate change strikes me as simply the newest vehicle to use in driving the same path.
Pew: Support for College Affirmative Action is Slipping
A new survey from Pew Research casts doubt on the public’s support for entangling race and college admissions. According to new data, “most Americans (73%) say colleges and universities should not consider race or ethnicity when making decisions about student admissions. Just 7% say race should be a major factor in college admissions, while 19% say it should be a minor factor.” Pew’s survey asked 7,000 people about their opinions on college admissions.
Aid Reaches Venezuela
Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó has announced via Twitter that the first international food aid shipments have entered into Venezuela from across the border with Brazil. ¡Atención Venezuela! Anunciamos oficialmente que YA ENTRÓ el primer cargamento de ayuda humanitaria por nuestra frontera con Brasil.
Moment of Truth for Venezuela
Tomorrow things may come to a head for Venezuela. Venezuelan opposition leader (and U.S.-recognized legitimate president of the country) Juan Guaidó has pledged to bring U.S. and international food aid into the country from Colombia on Saturday. Socialist president Nicolas Maduro, clinging to power, has been preventing any aid from reaching Venezuela’s starving citizens.
Putin Rattles His Saber
Russian President Vladimir Putin engaged in some saber rattling this week, saying that he is ready for another Cuban Missile Crisis with the United States and that he would win. The United States and the former Soviet Union signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty in 1987; Russia is the successor state to the Soviet Union for purposes of treaties and international obligations.
Nobody Tell the Media, They ARE Donald Trump
It’s an axiom of child-rearing that conflict is to be expected most often between parent and child when the two individuals possess extremely similar personality traits. We’ve all either experienced or witnessed such conflict and said, “The problem is that they are SO much alike.” Though the parent/child relationship is not necessarily a good analogy to use in the Trump/Mainstream Media dynamic, this principle of “similar traits yields intense conflict” is.
There Was No Attempted Coup
Andrew McCabe hanging out with buddies at the Department of Justice doing a whip count on who in the Cabinet might go along with the 25th amendment was not an attempted coup. I keep hearing conservatives refer to it as that. It was nothing of the sort. It is Andrew McCabe trying to sell books.
Rubio Rallies for Relief at Venezuelan Border
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) went to the Colombian-Venezuelan border this weekend to call for Venezuelan “president” Nicolas Maduro to allow the aid trucks at the border to enter into the country. The United States has been shipping food and relief supplies from Homestead Air Reserve Base in Florida to Colombia, with the intention of transporting it across the border to help Venezuelans who are starving to death under Maduro’s regime.
Yes, Jussie Smollett Lied
So we talked about “Empire” actor, Jussie Smollett and his harrowing tale of victimization, at the hands of roving MAGA maniacs, stalking the Chicago streets in the early morning hours of January 29. To recap, Smollett claims two white guys jumped him, roughed him up, put a noose around his neck, poured some sort of substance on him (possibly bleach), used racist and homophobic slurs, as well as saying this was “MAGA country.” In other words, blame the Trump crowd.
We Need To Talk About Stacey Abrams
And everyone like her. Everyone on “the other side.” The “pro-aborts” and the “radicals.” We need to have a conversation. We made a post recently mentioning that we should watch Stacey Abrams’ Democrat response to President Trump’s State of the Union as it is highly suspected that she will be running for US Senate next year against Senator David Perdue. Many folks responded by talking about voter dynamics in Georgia and her prospects in another statewide election here.
Conniving Politicians Won’t Respect Your Good Faith Effort
There is a lot of talk regarding the likelihood that Trump will set a bad precedent with an emergency declaration. There are plenty of reasons to support or oppose Trump’s move to declare a national emergency, but I have no interest in discussing those when one of the main reasons given over the past few weeks is that such a move will set a bad precedent. To be completely honest, I think it’s an idiotic argument.
Kamala Harris: Marijuana Hypocrite or New Legalization Champion?
California Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has made a big deal about her desire to legalize marijuana use in order to fire a salvo in the war on drugs. She co-sponsored the Marijuana Justice Act, legislation last year that sought to essentially legalize pot at the federal level. Harris has even made a big deal about her claims to have smoked weed in her college days.
War in Yemen? U.S. House Says No.
The U.S. House of Representatives has voted 248-177 to force the U.S. to cease military support for the Saudi-led coalition fighting Islamic insurgents in Yemen. Most press reports are framing this as a rebuke of President Trump’s foreign policy, particularly his “alliance” with Saudi Arabia. Tensions with Saudi Arabia have been strained since their brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi last year. The truth of what is happening in Yemen is more complex, however.
Anything to Survive - Venezuelan Woman Resorting to Prostitution
A new report about the dire situation in Venezuela focuses on the plight of professional businesswomen who have had to engage in prostitution to feed their families. With a failed economy, a dysfunctional government, food shortages, and few able to help, these women have done what they felt they have to do to keep their children and themselves alive. The sad downfall of Venezuela has been well-documented.
Protecting Life - The Resurgent
Since the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision 46 years ago, we have lost millions of innocent lives to abortion. Every loss of human life is a tragedy, but it has been an especially tough couple of weeks for those of us fighting to protect the unborn. Being pro-life isn’t about being Republican or Democrat – it’s about protecting ten fingers, ten toes, and one precious heartbeat.
Constitutional Carry Debates in Georgia
Gun rights in Georgia are set to enter into an interesting phase of debate. For the past few years, many states (14 so far) have been passing “Constitutional Carry” laws which allow firearms to be carried concealed or openly by anyone legally allowed to possess firearms, without the requirement for a license. This is in contrast to traditional “Concealed Carry” laws which require a license to carry concealed and/or openly.
The Best Defense Against Sophisticated AI-Based Cyber Attacks Is Actually Very Simple
The high value targets make news, but that’s really the low hanging fruit in the real cyber war. The real prize is what we’ve been hearing about for a the last two years: #FakeNews and social interference in our politics. And our enemies know exactly where to hit us.
Why The Debate Over Northam’s Racism Is Good For Pro-Abortion Democrats
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam prepares to address a news conference at the Capitol in Richmond, Va., Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019. Northam made a statement and answered questions about the late term abortion bill that was killed in committee. (AP Photo/Steve Helber) Republicans smell blood in the water in Virginia. Gov. Ralph Northam’s career seems to be nearing an end after the revelation of racist pictures in his college yearbook.
WATCHING THE MOVIES: Guardians of the Galaxy
Happy Semi-Annual Patriots Greatness Celebration Weekend! I only had time for one movie this week, as we remain in the movie industry’s doldrum-filled winter dumping ground. Thankfully, it’s a good flick! GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY When it entered theaters on the heels of a killer 80s-tinged marketing campaign, no one quite knew what to expect from Guardians of the Galaxy.
Ralph Northam Should Not Resign Over a 35 Old Picture. He Should Resign Because He Supports Infanticide.
Ralph Northam probably cannot withstand the tide that has so dramatically turned against him. A picture in his medical school year book from 1984 is clearly racist. Northam admits he was in the photo. He just does not acknowledge whether he was the klansman or the man in blackface. He has apologized. I continue to believe that society is headed down a terrible, dangerous path when we destroy people’s lives and careers for things that happened that long ago.
Dems Defend Ralph Northam, Sense of Irony Hardest Hit
Virginia governor Ralph Northam, who ignited controversy earlier this week when he went on the radio to support a Virginia bill that would dramatically expand abortion practices and basically defended infanticide in the process, landed in even more hot water today after a certain, shall we say, insensitive photo surfaced from his medical school yearbook.
ISIS-held Territory Reduced to Small Plot
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) or Da’ish, once controlled large swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria. This Sunni Islamic terrorist organization has sought to establish a worldwide caliphate governed under strict Sharia law. As it conquered land, it enslaved women and children and killed the men as it enforced its violent vision upon the world.
Florida Governor: Common Core is No More.
I don’t think any trend in education has stirred up as much controversy as Common Core has the past few years. It’s easy to see why: parents try to help their kids and can’t figure out how to do simple math the “new way.” Students are having to reach around their head to touch their ear in math problems, so to speak. Corporations love Common Core, because it teaches our kids to be worker bees instead of critical thinkers. Parents and teachers? Not so much.
Who Will Hold Democrats Accountable For Endorsing Infanticide?
Like a scene from a dystopian science fiction movie, an elected official took to the airwaves and casually defended infanticide this week. The story begins when Kathy Tran, a Virginia delegate, admitted in an appalling testimony that her abortion bill would allow a full-term child to be aborted – even when the mother was in her 40thweek of pregnancy and in active labor.
Westboro Baptist Church to Protest in Georgia
This weekend, Westboro Baptist Church – based in Topeka, Kansas – plans to protest six Christian congregations in Gainesville, Georgia. The exact reasons for choosing these particular congregations are unknown, but Westboro is known for protesting churches, soldiers’ funerals, Jewish institutions (including the Holocaust Memorial Museum) and other locations and people.
Midwest Approaching Absolute Zero
Well not quite, but the polar vortex is on its way. A few years ago when I was in college, Chicagoland was hit with a polar vortex that dropped the temps and wind chill down to -30. Midwesterners vowed vengeance upon any meteorologist who uttered the words “polar vortex” again. And here we are. Except this time it’s worse. The Weather Channel summarized what is to come. At a Glance Dangerously cold conditions are forecast in the Midwest this week.
From Russia with Leverage: Why the “But Hillary” Response to the Mueller Probe Fails
Whataboutism is not a four-letter word in my dictionary. Quite frankly, I have no problem with calling out rank hypocrisy when the other side of the aisle has a plank in its eye while criticizing a speck in the eye of the Right. But Russia-gate, if it exists, is not one of those cases. No question, Hillary’s emails were and are a legitimate scandal. Her campaign’s involvement with the Steele Dossier is fair game for criticism.
Trump Likes the Idea of Bible Classes
Donald Trump ascended to the presidency with a ton of help from evangelical Christians. He has spoken about his Christian faith – while sometimes stumbling in his expressions of it. While I’m not going to judge him on whether he is a true believer or not, it can be easy sometimes to smirk at him when he tries to engage with Christians.
The New York Times Thinks Americans Don't Work Night Shifts
This is a pretty extraordinary statement in a report about Apple: Another frustration with manufacturing in Texas: American workers won’t work around the clock. Chinese factories have shifts working at all hours, if necessary, and workers are sometimes even roused from their sleep to meet production goals. That was not an option in Texas. “China is not just cheap.
I Long For the Day I Can Stop Doing This
January 29th, 2019 Frustrated businessman hitting laptop on fire with hammer. We are so close to being able to rely on the ad revenue this site generates and the fees and sponsorships from our annual conference. But we are not there yet. We have to finish paying for this redesign and we need to rely on our readers to help us. If you can help, please do so below. I cannot thank you enough.
