What was your first job as a journalist?

An intern reporter

How is social media changing news?

Social media has changed the way we consume news, we can get news instantly in a variety of ways. But it also means- fake news, inaccuracy.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means I get to give people a voice and tell the stories that would otherwise remain untold.

Why did you become a journalist?

I loved writing about anything and everything. I was naturally curious about human rights issues.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My stories on sexual violence in South Africa.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Never stop reading, learning and asking the difficult questions.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Many people think that journalism is glamorous- its not. You really have to be ready to go the extra mile to get a story.
