What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a contributor for ScreenSpy.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, I once used my mom's old typewriter for a school paper.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I like to be emailed, with the pitcher specifying which outlet they're aiming to see the piece published in.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

AP Style Checker, Grammarly, Google Docs, Adobe Suite, Tweetdeck, etc.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter

Why did you become a journalist?

Because I have a never-ending desire to acquire knowledge and this is a job that pays me to learn.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Only for a semester on the Arts and Entertainment section.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Be patient and kind with yourself, and trust that the experience of getting something wrong is a learning experience that's worth it.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Usually in the evening sometime after 5 p.m. ET.

What's your favorite drink?

Eggnog

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

With my nose in a book.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Vox

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That it is all soft features and celebrity interviews. A+E can also be about labor, economics, technology, justice and innovation.
