Abe Maddison’s Biography

South Australian correspondent for Australian Associated Press, covering state and national breaking news.

Previously, 30-something years reporting and editing at The Advertiser in Adelaide, The West Australian in Perth, and the Sunraysia Daily in Mildura (remotely from Adelaide).

Author of three bestselling true crime books, under my adoptive name, Derek Pedley. Two were shortlisted for the Ned Kelly True Crime Award and one was adapted as a telemovie (Postcard Bandit).

My fourth book, CRAZY BASTARD - A memoir of forced adoption, was published by Wakefield Press, in 2023.

My first and second books, No Fixed Address and Australian Outlaw, have been adapted by Warner Bros Australia for a six-part mini-series, Run, and a two-part documentary, The Postcard Bandit, now available on Foxtel's Binge.

The new, updated edition of Australian Outlaw, retitled The Postcard Bandit, was published in January 2026.
