Assel Abilkhamit’s Biography

I am a Cultural Architect and Creative Director working at the intersection of jewelry, brand strategy, and cultural identity.

My practice focuses on building long-term brand systems — where products, narratives, visual language, and values are aligned into a coherent cultural structure. I work not with decoration or trends, but with meaning, memory, and institutional logic, translating culture into tangible form.

Currently, I serve as Creative Director & Brand Architect of KazakhYuvelir, the oldest and largest jewelry house in Kazakhstan (founded in 1941). I lead the brand’s creative and strategic transformation — from product architecture and collections to storytelling, brand systems, and cultural positioning — shaping a new chapter of relevance while working with deep historical heritage.

Alongside applied creative leadership, I co-founded Playgrownd, a cultural branding studio functioning as a laboratory for identity systems, narrative strategy, and research-driven design. My work spans jewelry, fashion, luxury, and cultural institutions, often operating across regions and languages.

My background includes editorial leadership, brand building, and creative production across Central Asia, Europe, and Asia. I am particularly interested in how culture, power, memory, and identity are embedded in objects and brands — and how design can act as a responsible, human-centered system rather than surface aesthetics.

I collaborate with brands and institutions that prioritize culture over trends, human-centered values over profit, and long-term relevance over short-term visibility.
