Stanford's Abrahm DeVine Named Pac-12 Men's Swimmer Of The Year
SWIMMER OF THE YEAR: Abrahm DeVine, Jr., Stanford (Seattle, Wash.) DeVine is the 2018 Pac-12 Swimmer of the Year after helping Stanford finish second at the Pac-12 Swimming Championships and seventh at the NCAA Championships. The two-time Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week won Conference titles in both the 200-yard individual medley and 200 backstroke before going on to set a pool record (3:35.29) in winning the 400-yard IM title at the NCAA Championships.
Abrahm Devine has Transformed as a Swimmer (Video)
The 400 IM A final was a very tactical race – the top two seeds in the middle of the pool went out hard, but perhaps a little bit too hard. Stanford’s Abrahm Devine made his move at the right moment, blasting to the front of the pack during the breaststroke leg and surging home with a killer instinct on free. His 3:35.29 ultimately obliterated the field by three seconds. Arizona’s Nick Thorne roared in for second at 3:38.56, cutting almost a second from this morning.
Stanford's DeVine Swims to #2 All-Time with 3:35.2 400 IM
3 of the 10 fastest performers history swam in tonight’s NCAA 400 IM final as Georgia’s Gunnar Bentz, Stanford’s Abrahm DeVine, and Cal’s Andrew Seliskar entered the water. Tonight, it was DeVine on top as he became the 2nd fastest 400 IMer in history. His 3:35.29 was his best time by 2 and a half seconds. It was a close race with Seliskar until the freestyle leg, where DeVine took off to win it by 3 seconds. Notably, the 2nd and 3rd fastest times of the night actually both came from the B final.
2018 Men's NCAA 200 IM Yields 5 of 11 Fastest Swimmers In History
In a massive surge of IM performances, this year’s NCAA Championships produced 5 of the fastest 11 200 IMers in history. This morning, Cal’s Andrew Seliskar went 1:40.40 to take the top qualifying spot. At the time, that ranked him #7 all-time. As of tonight’s final, Seliskar has been bumped from the all-time top 10. That’s because four men topped his prelims time, effectively rewriting the all-time top IM list. Florida’s Jan Switkowski won in 1:39.54, the 3rd-fastest performance of all-time.
2018 M. NCAAs: Seliskar Swims to #7 All-Time with 1:40.4 200 IM
Swimmers stepped up to compete in prelims of the 200 IM on Thursday morning at the 2018 Men’s NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Cal’s Andrew Seliskar busted out a best time this morning as he battled with Stanford’s Abrahm DeVine, breaking 1:41 for the first time in 1:40.40. Seliskar trailed DeVine up front, but closed in on the breast leg and took over on the free leg. DeVine also broke 1:41 for the first time, finishing closely behind in 1:40.78.
2018 M. NCAA Picks: For 1st Time in Years, No Clear Favorite in 200 IM
For the past few years, it was pretty easy to call this race. In 2015, David Nolan was the obvious #1 choice after he broke the American Record at Pac 12s. Will Licon‘s runner-up finish as a sophomore this year led him being the odds-on favorite the past two years, and he delivered, although Florida’s Mark Szaranek nearly pulled an upset when he tied Licon last year.
Day 4 Finals Live Recap
Tonight marks the final night of competition at the 2018 Men’s Pac-12 Championships in Federal Way, Washington. Swimmers are set to compete for individual titles in the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, and 200 fly. We’ll also see finals of the 400 free relay at the end of the session. Cal’s Andrew Seliskar, who won the 200 fly last season, is changing things up this time around as he’ll battle for a title in the 200 breast.
Day 4 Prelims Live Recap
Going into the final prelims session of the meet, it looks like it’s Cal’s meet to lose. Cal is very deep in all of the events today, with the possible exception of the 1650, so short of something unforeseen like a bunch of DQs tonight, they will claim the Pac-12 team title. Patrick Mulcare, who hasn’t swam yet this week, is seeded first in the 200 back. Without an explanantion as to why he has not swam his events this weekend, we have to assume he won’t be swimming the 200 back today either.

Shoults Sets Pool Record as Stanford Men Top Cal by 2 Points
Pac-12 Champion Grant Shoults set a new Pool Record as Stanford took down rival Cal at home to close the regular dual meet season. It came down to the final relay, with the Cardinal taking the meet by 2 points. In the 500 free, Shoults battled with teammate Liam Egan, coming from behind in the final 200 yards to win in 4:17.69. That took down his own former Pool Record of 4:18.40. Egan was nearly under it as well with a 4:18.48 for 2nd place.

Liang Posts 21.52 50 Fly as Stanford Men Roll to Win Over Pacific
The Stanford and Pacific men swam a dual meet against each other featuring unusual race distances. The meet consisted of the 400 medley and free relays, 200 IM, 600 and 300 free, and the 150 and 50 of every stroke. Stanford swept Pacific, beating them in the final score 217.5-44.5. True Sweetser was in control of the 600 and 300 free, winning both in times of 5:23.81 and 2:36.33.
2017-2018 Men's NCAA Power Rankings: Post-Invite Edition
As in previous years, SwimSwam’s Power Rankings are somewhere between the CSCAA-style dual meet rankings and a pure prediction of NCAA finish order. SwimSwam’s rankings take into account how a team looks at the moment, while keeping the end of the season in mind through things like a team’s previous trajectory and NCAA scoring potential. These rankings are by nature subjective, and a jumping-off point for discussion.
