Reportage - Es stinkt in "Plastikan"

102-Year-Old Powderhound
YOU CAN'T CURE A POWDERHOUND Words by: Harriet Wallis George got off the lift and his first words were: “Where can we find some powder?” He's addicted. It's in his DNA. He's hard-wired to seek powder. Even a little patch of powder will do. A week-old patch of sun-kissed snow is just fine. Any kind of fluff is perfect. He launches into it and makes rhythmic turn after turn. He's 102! He skis like he was born to ski. But it wasn't all that easy.
101 Year Old Skis Alta
George Jedenoff is Alta's powder hound patriarch February 2020 Update: Now 102 1/2 years young, George Jedenoff is back skiing powder at Alta. This year he was joined by a crew of over 130 70+-year-old skiers from all corners of North America. Another trip around the sun and George isn't showing any desire to slow things down. We had the opportunity to host George this week, trying our best to keep up with him as he explored every powder field in Albion basin.
Steeped In Tradition Episode 6
The National Ski Patrol was formed in 1938, the same year Alta Ski Area was founded. While the National Ski Patrol was formed in Stowe, Vermont as a way to care for injured skiers, Alta Ski Patrol was formed in 1941 to assist skiers, but quickly became known as the birthplace of avalanche research in North America and home to one of the most respected snow safety departments in the industry. Alta's Ski Patrol consists of over 80 men and women, with 20–30 working on most days.
52-Hour Interlodge
The Alta snowflake logo, known worldwide in the ski community, did not come about by happenstance. The Alta Flake is based on the stellar dendrite, a snow crystal with hexagonal tree-like structure and branches. They are razor-thin, symmetrical in shape and create the fluffy snow that made Alta the birthplace of powder skiing.
503rd Parachute Battalion - Alta Ski Area
Photos courtesy of the Alta Historical Society In honor of Veteran’s Day, here are some photos of Company B of the 503rd Parachute Battalion that trained at Alta in 1942. Before the creation of the famed 10th Mountain Division, the 503rd sent 175 paratroopers to train for potential on-snow combat in the Alps. In order to train Company B of the 503rd from Fort Benning Georgia, the Army recruited Dick Durrance, head of the Alta Ski School and manager of the Alta Lodge.

7 Feet In 10 Days - Alta Ski Area
Photos: Rocko Menzyk Just in time for the MLK holiday weekend, a winter storm cycle made its way to the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Between January 16 and January 25th, Alta received over seven feet of snow—approximately the height of a polar bear standing on its hind legs. Needless to say, that's a lot of snow. With 272" on the season, a 93" base and more snow on the way, now would be a great time join us for a day of skiing or book that ski trip to Alta.
A Deep Dive Into A Deep Year - Alta Ski Area
Unfortunately, it’s that time of year again. The lifts have stopped spinning and the flakes have stopped falling (well not really, but we stopped counting them). The Alta ski season concluded on April 26th with a (rare-for-this-season) bluebird spring day. We’ve spent the past month digging out, thawing out, and adjusting to life without skiing. Now is the perfect time to reflect on the 2018-19 ski season—and what a season it was! Alta’s opening day was all the way back on November 23rd, 2018.
