Adam Lindemann’s Biography

Adam Lindemann, a distinguished New Yorker and influential figure in the art world, is renowned for his expansive collection of 20th and 21st-century art and design. He established Venus Over Manhattan, a gallery acclaimed for its innovative exhibitions of both historical and contemporary art. Under his stewardship for over a decade, the gallery has championed various iconoclastic artists, including Peter Saul, Joan Brown, and Jack Goldstein.

He has an astute eye for emerging talent, consistently spotlighting contemporary figures like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Jeff Koons. His gallery, Venus Over Manhattan, recently showcased works by Cheri Samba and Xenobia Bailey and will host "Celestial Songs," a group exhibition that echoes the 1960s Funk Art movement, later this summer.

In addition to participating in prestigious art fairs such as Art Basel and Frieze, Adam has impacted the auction scene. His strategic sales include Jeff Koons' "Hanging Heart (Magenta/Gold)," which fetched $23.5 million in 2007, setting a record for a living artist's work at auction. Another landmark sale was Basquiat's "Untitled (Devil)," which he sold for $57.3 million in 2016, a record for the artist then.

His recent auction, "ADAM: Works from the Collection of Adam Lindemann," at Christie's featured major pieces, amassing over $31 million. This event highlighted his keen market insight and his connection to each piece.

Adam's commitment to the arts extends beyond collecting and selling. He contributed to renovating the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Michael C. Rockefeller wing. He has supported numerous other institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami and the Mead Art Museum at Amherst College.

Adam's formative years were spent at Amherst College, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, followed by Yale Law School. His early exposure to New York's cultural scene profoundly influenced his career path. He also ventured into writing, contributing to The New York Observer and publishing books with Taschen Books. He also established Caliente Music, earned a Grammy with Los Van Van, and ventured into broadcasting with Mega Communications.

Adam Lindemann's dynamic involvement in the arts, his philanthropic efforts, and his business initiatives paint a portrait of a multifaceted individual deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of his time.
