Grids and vids: would you still travel if you couldn’t post about it?
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image Credits: NanduVasudevan, Pixabay (https://pixabay.com/service/license-summary/) I like to think we would. In fact, I know we would. Just because you can’t show every person on Instagram the cute outfits you wore while visiting one of the seven wonders of the world (or Ibiza, whatever floats your boat) doesn’t mean we won’t enjoy the holiday just as much or have the same stories to tell when we get back.

It is time for men to take more accountability when it comes to birth control, and this article will tell you why......
BITESIZED: Sesame Oil
Image credit: Pixabay @joannawielgosz Whilst too expensive for its own good, the smell, the taste, the casual way it adds to every dish it’s in? Yeah, that’s what I want from any ingredient in my cupboard. My favourite thing about it is probably its versatility: a quick stir fry is improved by cooking it in sesame oil, just chucking some rice and veg together – use a bit of sesame oil. Poke bowls, chow mien, fried chicken, ramen. All improved by a bit of sesame oil.
Dr Who Season 2: Saved By Episode Three?
Dr Who hasn’t had me on the edge of my seat for a while now, but this episode brought back some of the inexplicable magic of the show. High stakes, good acting, some good writing (finally) and it felt like I was watching the resurgence of my childhood instead of the death of it. Don’t get me wrong I’m still cautiously optimistic at best, one good episode does not discount two middle of the road ones. Not everyone will agree with me but the ‘meta moment’ in episode two was painful to watch.
Swoon-worthy romance tropes: my top 5
Enemies to Lovers Enemies to lovers provides that little bit of escapism from day to day life that I love. There is rarely a book I enjoy more than one with an enemies to lovers plot. From Pride and Prejudice to A Court of Thorns and Roses, enemies to lovers has captured generations of people's interest and you simply can't persuade me that it's not one of the most interesting narratives to read, particularly when there's a happy ending (sorry Romeo and Juliet).
Remember Monday announced as the UK Eurovision act this year
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image source: Wikimedia Commons, Michael Doherty They'll perform their new song 'What the Hell Just Happened?' in Basel in May, which follows their EP Crazy Anyway which came out last October. Personally I think they're a fun band, have a good stage presence and could give us a pretty admirable performance if everything goes the way we hope.
Should male birth control become more popular?
With the exception of condoms and vasectomies every type of birth control is for women. Even then the value of using a condom is stressed to both sexes to the point where using one seems to not be a gender issue but an issue that couples must discuss among themselves. As a result men are left with one 'out', having to have a literal operation. A little excessive and invasive, no? I think birth control needs to be more of a shared issue than one that is foisted upon women.
“The Worst is Imminent”: Avoiding Fake News and Social Media Misinformation
Adelaide Dodson: spotting fake news In today's world avoiding fake news seems a nearly insurmountable task. With AI able to create realistic looking videos and pretty much everyone on the planet being able to put whatever the want on the internet, it sometimes feels pretty impossible to know what's real and what's not. But don't worry! There are ways to try and ensure the information you're getting is accurate and not to tinged with overwhelming bias or exaggeration.
Beyond the bubble: what can students do to help the local community in 2025?
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image credit: Pixabay @kaboompics As a student it seems to be pretty easy to get stuck in a bubble, there’s student life and then there’s the life of a local. At times, it seems a bit difficult to enmesh the two. Which it is, even though our campus is in the city it’s still a campus and most, if not all social events you go to will be university based.
Screen as shelter: how cinema can help you escape from the troubles of the world
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image credit: Wikimedia Commons Screen is a shelter to me because it’s nice to have something as mundane as going to the movies to look forward to. Seriously, sitting down with a big bag of popcorn and a coke zero (both from Tesco I’m not made of money) knowing the only thing you have to do for the next two hours is sit and watch something is honestly heavenly.

The best Christmas gift ideas for gamers

Have you spotted the person you're buying for eyeing up the newest FIFA (always conveniently released before Christmas exactly for this purpose) or the new CAD.
Skip the capitals, small city travel is here to stay
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image Credits: PIxabay Don’t get me wrong, capital cities are cool; they’re stuffed full of arts, culture, interesting people, and amazing food. But sometimes, smaller cities lose out on tourism because they don’t have the same level of recognition that a bigger city does, and so we end up missing out on unique gems.
Hunting for a Graduate Job: Where Should we be Looking?
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image Source: rawpixel.com Everyone will start looking for a graduate job at different times, and that’s fine. There are new ones coming out regularly and many applications will likely stay open for a while. There’s no rush. I only just started an initial sweep, finding websites I can look at and seeing how much my English Literature Degree is going to fail me when every other job is for a STEM graduate.
How much blush is too much?
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image Source: IMDb Is blush pretty? Yes, absolutely. Do some people maybe apply a little too much? Probably. I feel blush blindness might be the new eyebrow blindness, where people are a little bit chronic for chasing the next eyebrow (or blush) ‘trend’ instead of taking the time to work out what’s best for their face.
Rivals: A Review- Is this the Telly World's Saltburn?
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image- IMDb The performances of all the actors are impressive, many of the old country houses being used as sets, gorgeous, and the script is intriguing and leaves you wanting more. I can firmly say it’s worth a watch even if it’s just to enjoy David Tennant mastering the art of playing a smarmy, entitled Lord.
Come and play! The rise of interactive exhibitions

In whatever form they present themselves, the main objective is to create a unique interaction with contemporary art allowing the distinction between artist, artwork and viewer to become more fluid.
World's oldest cheese found buried next to mummified remains.
The samples are all kefir cheese, made from kefir milk, a traditional beverage produced by fermenting milk using kefir grains. Fermentation is an ancient practice involving the chemical breakdown of substances by bacteria, yeast, or other microorganisms. The lifestyle of the Xiaohe population can be researched more accurately when DNA information is recovered from these ancient, fermented dairy remains, and scientists can explore the co-evolution between the fermented bacteria and their hosts.
US presidential election

Battling Fresher's Flu

I’ll kick start this with a classic: eat some soup. Honestly nothing is more healing. I’m partial to Heinz tomato soup myself.
Is your airport romance about to take off? The mystery of airport crushes
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image credit: Andrik Langfield, Unsplash Those partial to an airport crush are probably familiar with the immediate butterflies that accompany the sensation of finding the person you’re going to crush on. Maybe they wander past you, and you notice they’re cute. Or they sit opposite you somehow able to make sitting in-between a drooling person and a screaming toddler look cool.
My favourite moments from university so far
I love university, I’ve made some of my best friends and favourite memories here. I’ve learned to be an adult – sort of – drunk too much, laughed a lot, but there are some things I’ve done in Newcastle that I remember best. I'll be forever grateful for the sheer amount of socialising I did in those first few weeks of university My first ‘favourite moment’ is more a series of moments across freshers, as I met my now second year house mates.
My Travel Nightmare Story

The conveyor belt is spinning, everyone is tapping their foot impatiently after their twelve-hour flight, until everyone has their bags but me. But – no.
How early should you start assignments?
What I want to write (and should)(and probably will in a few paragraphs...) is that you should do all your assignments over the course of weeks, more days that three at least. Of course, life, for me at least, does tend to get in the way of that.

Latest on the Sycamore Gap tree
The Sycamore Gap tree, made iconic by the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, was recently felled in an act of vandalism. The tree, which has stood in Northumberland for 300 years was one of the most photographed trees in the world. The act took place overnight on the 27th of September and since there have been several developments as the police and The National Trust investigate and respond to the incident.
Freshers' week is not the be all and end all of your uni experience...
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image credit @newcastlesu Freshers – the hell scape of hundreds of thousands of eighteen-year-olds converging on every university across the country, unmoored, likely for the first time from parents, guardians, siblings, and friends. If my experience is anything to go by freshers is not everything that it’s made out to be. Honestly, it’s expensive, alcohol fuelled, and a little terrifying.
Eating out for Valentine's Day - canoodling or consumerism?
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Is the true meaning of Valentine's Day overshadowed by consumerism? Image credit: Pixabay Valentines has become a checklist of things one person has to do for their significant other: flowers, cards, chocolate, a date. Year after year I watch friends and family buy into the idea that this day is special, meaningful, that you need someone to spend it with.
