Bumped - Ten year rolling ladder
#7 By my calculations here is my ranking system of the teams over the last 11 years. Since we joined.
Commentatoes commentating
Commentating by watching the television has to stop. All they do is parrot what we can all see on the tv. How can the commentators get paid so much yet can't leave the state?? Insanity.
Best aerialist you have seen?
Banned #12 Shaun Smith he could take a hanger that 1 against the Lions at the gabba very special and it was not the only 1 he was always a threat in the air. yeh definitely! Smith was a freak, his hang-time and spring was unbelievable, Simon Madden would have a terrific highlights reel
Sydney's Grand Final performance
Thread starter #7 This part still mystifies me. Just because they had a training drill against witches hats in blue & white jumpers and Hawthorn had a real battle against a quality Port side, people start thinking Sydney was the superior team. They just weren't. Yes but I thought they would have a crack its a GF ffs and they stood around with half hearted and flimsy efforts. That Jetta "effort" on McEvoy summed up Sydney's desperation. Dismal performance. No dressing it up
Is the Showdown
Bunk Moreland Hall of Famer Veteran 10k Posts 30k Posts #1 ... the single biggest rivalry in Australian football? I know there's longstanding rivalries between the big Melbourne clubs, but every time I tune into a showdown it just seems to radiate out of the TV... the noise and passion on display from the crowd and players is amazing.
Premiership trophy cabinets
The "family club" of Hawthorn like to keep their trophies in a cabinet away from the prying eyes of their "family"?I would have thought they would put at least some of them in the museum they have there at Waverley. That is surprising. poor effort Hawthorn. Carlton's used to be on display for the public...haven't checked for a while but it reminds me the last time we won a premiership was a long, long time ago. 1995. very sad.
BT commentating
#5 I reckon he had a stroke or something a couple years back, he's gone from an annoying caller fixated on irrelevant minutiae to downright senile in the blink of an eye. Doesn't know the players' names, slurs his words and basically seems to have little grasp of what's happening on the field.
Coach - Has Ken Hinkley Been Found Out?
As we all know Ken Hinkley had a great start to his coaching career getting port into the 8 in his first year. On the back of his coaching and head fitness guru Darren Burgess. They backed that up by making the prelim the next year. Port were rated a genuine flag threat in 2015 but missed the 8 all together. Have coaches caught on to Hinkley's game plan or does he simply not have a plan b at his disposal?
The Greatest Finals Player Ever
In the modern day, hard to beat Dusty. Not just three Norm Smith medals, but three Gary Ayres awards as well.
Best Ever Games With No Footage
#13 Why is there no footage of that game? According to AFL Tables, there were four games being played in Victoria simultaneously at 2:10pm that Saturday afternoon - Hawthorn vs. Richmond at Waverley, Melbourne vs. Sydney at the MCG, St Kilda vs. Adelaide at Moorabbin, and Collingwood vs. North Melbourne at Victoria Park - and no Friday or Saturday night games.
Should a suspension rule a player ineligible for the Rising Star award?
#6 Yes, that's how I understand it. He will become ineligible through suspension. Unless he gets off on the "he's a good bloke" or "But he's just a homesick kid" appeal If The West Australian has turned on him, then I don't fancy his chances... A win and a rising star award slipped through the hands of West Coast in 40 minutes as Harley Reid sweats on a possible suspension in the Eagles’ 14-point loss to St Kilda. thewest.com.au
Running too far - should it be extended to 20m?
With the controversy at the end of the Collingwood Adelaide game a couple of weeks ago, I once again came to think how often this rule is technically not paid. 15 is not very far at all to run with the ball these days. Players go further than that all of the time. For reference, check out the first highlight from the Geelong v GWS game below: Bruhn gets possession just past the end of the 'BIG' centre circle, and kicks it from just past (about the same distance) the end of the centre square.
Best coach of all time?
#15 Where do you rank them? I personally give a bit of weight to coaches who have coached flags at multiple clubs, I also negate points for coaches who walked into "unloseable" situations (i.e. Matthews at Brisbane doesn't weigh as highly as Malthouse at Collingwood, for example) where their team had a significant advantage over the competition. I'd say the big names most would agree on are: R.D. Barrassi N. Smith J. McHale L. Matthews M. Blight K. Sheedy M. Malthouse A.
Things more hypocritical than Australians on Drugs in sport
#6 Heard Kosi on SEN today saying Jobe should lose his Brownlow...Specifically mentions that he couldn't understand why recieving off site injections in the stomach, would not have raised alarm bells for the players. He also spoke about the regular drug education all players receive and that it is drummed into them that whatever goes into their body is their sole responsibility.
Game Day - AFL 2024 Round 4 - Eagles v Swans Sat April 6th 1:30pm AEDT (Adelaide Hills)
#3 I would hope it wouldn’t be another 170 point reaming like last year but who knows! Swans will be hungry after that loss to the tigers.
