What was your first job as a journalist?

Being a contributing reporter for my university's student newspaper.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No, I have not.

How is social media changing news?

Social media continues to progressively transform news through endless sharing. Whether retweeting, reuploading; one click can provide views.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being the voice to your community and proudly communicating, relating and silhouetting a trustworthy foundation with your audience.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I mostly prefer one-on-one contact to be able to connect with my editor and lay a foundation with asking certain questions.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Microsoft Office; importantly, social media to gather thorough information to support my story.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter.

Why did you become a journalist?

Story-telling through numerous formats of writing has always been a passion of mines. It creates a space of trustworthiness and accuracy.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes, I worked with The Aviator, a newspaper that covered news surrounding Davis High School and sharing inspirational stories from students.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

A piece I did covering a Sam Houston State University graduate who showcased her artwork at the university's art exhibit.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The Houston Chronicle.
