Letters to Your Younger Self: Trust in God’s Blueprint
Dear Younger self, This is not a story of the past. It is a story of your future, although I’ll try not to include too many spoilers. This is a story of you, and how you grew up to be your own protagonist. I’m not old enough to be writing one of these – I’m 21. But who I am comes in waves, and I am riding my current before I wave it goodbye. I can see you roll your eyes now, stomping your foot and demanding that I tell you what I know so you can plan your life around and away from it.
The Black Lives Matter London Protest in 83 Photos
Over this weekend thousands of people are taking to the streets around the UK and the world in a series of protests after the wake of George Floyd’s murder by police in America. The peaceful protests were a reminder that racism and anti-blackness are embedded around the world. Protestors reminded us that the UK has had many of its own cases of racism and injustice including Mark Duggan, Shukri Abdi, Belly Mujinga and the Grenfell fire.
Keeping the Ramadan Vibe Alive Starting With Shawwal Fasts
So Shawwal is almost here, Ramadan is over….where do we go from here? How do we, should we, react? There are many reactions we can have to the end of Ramadan. Of course, we miss it, we miss the blessings and peace of the month – we all loved that Ramadhan vibe! But there is another reaction that we have to be wary of, one that anyone can fall into, even without realising. That is the view that our daily routines, and life in general, all go back to ‘normal’ when Ramadan has gone.
#AnythingIsBetterThanNothing – The Campaign Started by an A&E Doctor Urging PPE Donations | Amaliah
As key workers still face having to go into work without adequate Personal Protective equipment, Dr Lamis Latif, a GP and A&E urgent care doctor has started the #AnythingIsBetterThanNothing campaign and the Coronavirus Frontline Group which calls for PPE donations. This as a temporary measure, as the government is yet to adequately equip key workers with equipment as well as testing. Dr Latif was sick of waiting for PPE and was concerned seeing her colleagues with no protection.

On Capitalising on Our Identities
Leaving a footprint in the sands of time has always been a preoccupation, particularly for those of us who have at one point been occupied. It is, actually, a post-occupation. We have come to learn, through erased storylines, that history is a creative writing activity for the skilled and powerful of the past, so in the present, we try so hard to be just close enough to being memorable.
The UK Government’s Current Response to Coronavirus Has Been Classist, Ableist, and Elitist
Officially declared a pandemic on 11th March 2020 by the World Health Organisation, as of today, the Coronavirus has claimed the lives of approximately 5,500 people, with 144,000 infected and 6,000 currently in critical condition. These numbers are set to rise with UK Prime minister Boris Johnson claiming that ‘many more families are going to lose loved ones before their time’.
Racing Against the Speed of Life
I sometimes feel like the silly kid on a beach with a shovel and a dream to find water, knowing that the ocean is right there, easily within reach. But if I dig it’ll be a discovery. It’ll be on my own terms. I know that eventually waves of reality will splash onto the shore and engulf my hole, or even engulf me whole. And the lesson will wash me into adulthood: the brashness of mother nature. An Economics professor once reminded me of the classical Latin phrase: Become who you are.
5 Lessons From the Story of Hijra That Help Me Towards ‘Home’
When the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) introduced Islam to Mecca, his city of origin, he faced an unprecedented wave of backlash. Both he and his initial followers faced beatings, whippings, and were treated inhumanely, seen as pagans to the idol-worshipping essence of the city. Banished from the place they called home, and all they really knew, the Prophet Mohammad PBUH led his followers to a new city – the Madineh – in search of a new home.
