Time-of-flight and noise-correlation-inspired algorithms for full-field shear-wave elastography using digital holography
1. Introduction The structure of biological tissues can be altered by certain pathologies, such as malignant tumors, metastasis, or inflammatory diseases. This change of structure leads to the modification of the mechanical properties of tissues whether it is local, in the case of a tumor,1,2 or affects the whole organ, for example in liver fibrosis.3 When the tissues are accessible, experienced physicians can detect those structural anomalies through palpation.
Full-field passive elastography using digital holography
Abstract Off-axis digital holography is an imaging technique that allows direct measurement of phase and amplitude from one image. We utilize this technique to capture displacements induced by a diffuse shear wave field with high sensitivity. A noise-correlation-based algorithm is then used to measure mechanical properties of samples. This approach enables full-field quantitative passive elastography without the need of contact or a synchronized source of a mechanical wave.
