An ENIGMA Consortium study of the relationship between white matter microstructure and positive and negative symptom severity in patients with schizophrenia | Schizophrenia
Abstract Symptom severity in schizophrenia has been repeatedly associated with thinner cortical gray matter. While global and regional white matter microstructure alterations in schizophrenia are well-documented, their association with clinical symptom severity remains unclear. As this is likely due to methodological heterogeneity across studies, we tested whether symptom severity in schizophrenia was associated with regional and global white matter alterations using standardized methods.
Whole Genome Sequencing of Pedigrees With High Density of Substance Use and Psychiatric Disorders: A Meeting Report
1 Introduction On April 25, 2023, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) convened a panel of scientists with expertise in genetics and substance use disorders (SUD) to discuss the utility and implications of performing whole genome sequencing (WGS) in pedigrees with a high density of substance use and psychiatric disorders. The meeting was initiated with presentations by investigators with pedigree data from densely affected pedigrees with SUD.
Early life stress, low-grade systemic inflammation and weaker suppression of the default mode network (DMN) during face processing in Schizophrenia - Translational Psychiatry
Study participants Two hundred and twenty-nine participants took part in this study. Fifty three individuals with SZ or SZA were recruited for the Immune Response and Social Cognition (iRELATE) project, as described in our previous studies (King et al., 2021). Briefly, all participants were recruited in Galway and Dublin through community mental health services.
Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of Asperger syndrome
Asperger syndrome is an uncommon condition, but probably more common than classic autism (the only published population study estimated prevalence at 36 per 10 000 children for Asperger syndrome and 5 per 10 000 for autism (Ehlers & Gillberg, 1993)). Misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis of this disorder is a serious problem, and the average age at diagnosis is several years later than for autism (Gillberg, 1989).
