Abstract Improving both eating quality and yield remains a major challenge in rice breeding. Here, we identify Ghd7 as the causal gene underlying the grain amylose content QTL qAC7 and reveal Ghd7–triggered transcriptional regulation that balances starch and protein to coordinate yield and quality. Ghd7 transcriptionally activates PCF3 and exhibits dominant epistasis over it.
4.2.1. Effects on Non-Target Insects Rice planthoppers and leafhoppers are both significant rice pests. As common feeding pests of rice, they are important non-target herbivores of transgenic rice with Bt resistance. Bai et al. found that the development of brown planthoppers was not affected by feeding on Bt rice material containing the Cry protein [ 51 ].

To explore how BPHs adapt to the resistant rice variety, we analyzed proteomics profiles of two virulent N. lugens populations.
