Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first job as a journalist was with Brila Media, Nigeria’s first and biggest sports radio station, where I gained hands-on experience in sports reporting and storytelling.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To me, being a journalist means telling stories that are accurate, engaging, and meaningful. It’s about informing audiences with credibility while also capturing the human side of the game. A journalist doesn’t just report facts, they provide context, create connections, and give people a reason to care about the story.

Who do you wish followed you?

Neymar Jr

Why did you become a journalist?

It's my dream. I love football more than anything I can think of. So a career plan in that field keeps me going

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

proud of my ongoing coverage with Sports Mole, where I’ve written previews and features that reach an international readership, and I’m equally proud of my coverage of the Super Eagles, where I’ve been able to tell engaging stories around Nigeria’s national team while placing them in the wider context of global football.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

My advice to aspiring journalists is to start where you are and stay consistent. Don’t wait for the perfect platform before you begin use whatever tools you have to tell stories, whether that’s a blog, social media, or freelance pitches. Be curious, stay authentic, and never stop learning. And above all, remember that your voice matters bring your perspective to the table, because that’s what sets you apart.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The best pitch I ever got was one that was clear, concise, and perfectly aligned with my beat. It showed that the person pitching had taken time to understand my work and offered a story idea that added real value to my audience.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

None that stand out. I’m generally open to pitches as long as they’re relevant to my beat in football and sports media

What's your favorite drink?

Water

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

When I’m not at a computer, I’m most likely watching football live, enjoying music, or exploring fashion.
