The organiser of the Bold Frontiers Festival in Dundalk talks about his career and love of music
Alan McCarthy of Louth County Council talks to the organiser of the Bold Frontiers Festival Mark Sheridan ahead of it taking place in Dundalk this weekend. Q: Can you just tell me a little bit about yourself? Yep, where to start there? I suppose from an events perspective, I've been working in events since 2009. The first Fantastic Festival was where I cut my teeth, so to speak. And from there, it just kind of spiralled a little bit out of control—but in a very positive way.

'War of words' Propaganda during the Irish Civil War
Analysis: the guerrilla phase of the Irish Civil War was mirrored by furtive propagandist publications challenging the official narrative Republican printer and propagandist Riobárd Lankford pithily described a period of his active service during the Civil War as producing 20,000 copies of the southern edition of Poblacht na h-Éireann 'on a hillside under war conditions, 15 miles from the nearest town.' During the more conventional warfare of July and August 1922, the Anti-Treaty IRA (ATIRA)...

Thanks to those who serve
ELKTON — The tragedy that occurred in Annapolis on Thursday afternoon was, yet again, a senseless, unnecessary act. I am deeply saddened that five innocent people lost their lives while simply doing the job they loved, and lived, to do.

Merger commitments have a shelf-life - General Court partially annuls Commission decision not to review merger commitments | Lexology
Under EU and Irish merger control, a merger can be approved subject to the merging parties agreeing to carry-out certain commitments (e.g. such as the sale of part of a business or to act in a certain way on a market). These commitments are given to enable the European Commission (Commission) under the EU merger rules or the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) under the Irish rules to approve a merger under their respective merger control rules.

Despite tough choices, proposed budget increases fire co. funding
This past Monday morning, April 30, I was disappointed to read the headline and article in the Cecil Whig that included pictures of the individual loss of two homes shown fully engulfed in fire. The point of the article was to cast a negative perspective on my fiscal year 2019 proposed budget that did not provide funding for the replacement of a specific fire equipment replacement request by the Water Witch Fire Company in Port Deposit.

Cecil's budget will balance needs, available resources
Cecil County citizens, before I go further, let me again state how sorry I am for the families of the students and faculty who died unnecessarily on Wednesday, Feb. 14 in Parkland, Fla. I can only imagine how devastated their families feel. It appears that those in positions to make a difference and confront this repeating tragedy cannot find the will or the means to see it through. There has been much talk and rhetoric on what must be done.
Cecil County is making positive strides
This week marked the first anniversary of my election to the position of Cecil County Executive. As I reflect on the past year, I must admit that I am truly amazed and gratified. There is so much positive activity taking place that the momentum is truly something we Cecil County citizens have not experienced in many a year, and possibly not ever.
Sewer hookup mandate is fair, supports future

Swift action needed to avoid losing war on drug abuse
Early this month, I and four others from Cecil County governmental departments met with Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford and Clay Stamp, executive director of the Maryland Opioid Operational Command Center. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the devastating personal, social and economic impact of the addiction and abuse of heroin and other opioids in Cecil County.
Executive's budget is based upon strategic plan
At the March 31 budget presentation, I outlined the most critically important goals for Cecil County. This budget is consistent with the goals and objectives of the Cecil County Strategic Plan. These goals will guide our path as we move forward together to make Cecil County better.I believe that it is essential that we generate more revenue therefore leaving no choice but to include a tax increase if we are going to achieve the goals outlined in this budget.
