BBC station names changed on DAB
I noticed that the previously-named "BBC Radio 4" has been relabelled "BBC Radio4" (with a space removed) on the BBC national mux. This seems to have been applied across the board, so we now have "BBC Radio2", "BBC Radio6Music" and so on. What can possibly be the reason for this?
Great Christmas radio comedy
Looks like there will be no new Count Arthur Strong Christmas show this year.. I love radio comedy - so I thought I'd start this thread with a few of my favourites and I look forward to your suggestions Hancock - Bill and Father Christmas Old Harrys' Game - two Christmas specials from 2001 and 2010 Clare in community Christmas with Clare Barker All the Count Arthur Christmas specials Tom Wrigglesworth Christmas episode Black Cinderella 2 goes east 1
Fun Kids leaving SDL multiplex?
I assume the Birmingham, Bristol & Manchester coverage will be on the SS DAB muxes. Most of the other areas seem to be run by MuxCo. It looks like SDL was unaffordable even with only 70 or so transmitters. It's a shame a Government grant couldn't be made available for children's radio, particularly if the advertising of HFSS food products is banned . 2
Ad free listening on GHR premium
OK - what am I missing here? If GHR programmes are live and you’re listening on Premium, ad-free, what do you get during the ad breaks?
Roberts Stream 94i poor FM reception
I have used my Roberts Stream 94i for several years and am very satisfied with its sound quality and with its DAB reception and internet performance and other features. However, reception on FM has always been poor, with a lot of hiss, even if switched to mono. I've put up with this as DAB and internet is fine. Having moved house I wondered if FM reception would improve but it hasn't.
Fun Kids starting to carry advertising?
I spend quite a lot of time listening to Fun Kids while driving the kids places. I've wondered in the past how it's funded, as it doesn't carry any advertising. Anyway, this afternoon, for the first time ever, about quarter to one, there was an advert: a single one, the one for Money Supermarket with Judi Dench on. Is this a change to the way the station is funded? How was it funded before? Perhaps @mattd has some info?
BBC Radio Scotland Has Lost A Fifth Of Its Listeners
BBC Radio Scotland has lost a fifth of all listeners in a year, according to the latest audience numbers. The figures published by the research body Rajar, show that nearly 196,000 people have turned off the national broadcaster over the last 12 months. In the final quarter of 2021, 976,000 people were tuning in, but by the same time last year that had fallen to 780,000, a 20.1 per cent drop. Last year, the station had an audience share of 7.5%, but that has now dipped to 6.2%.
Is it true that BBC radio faders are the 'wrong' way round?
I was recently told by a friend who owns a radio station that the audio faders for radio stations are usually silent at the bottom and that the volume incrementally increases as they are moved upwards until the maximum at the top. He went on to say that this is completely the other way round with BBC equipment.
TV to radio adaptations
On another forum I take part in we're trying to come up with examples of shows that bucked the trend and moved from TV to radio, rather than the other way round (e.g. Dad's Army, Steptoe and Son ). Here's the thread (I'm "Brock" over there, by the way). We've got at least thirty, which is far more than I initially imagined. Can anyone here think of any more?
