Alberto Escorcia’s Biography

Alberto Escorcia is a pioneering journalist specializing in the investigation of online disinformation. While much of the world first confronted the phenomenon during the Trump era in 2016, Escorcia had already been studying it since 2009, documenting its impact on public opinion around the world.

Mexico was among the first countries to experience large-scale digital disinformation campaigns. Over the past 12 years, Escorcia has meticulously tracked the groups and agencies behind these operations, revealing how they function and evolve.

He developed an innovative method -based on open-source software and network analysis- to detect in real time the emergence of disinformation narratives and coordinated influence operations, allowing interventions before they cause widespread harm. His work has helped dismantle major networks and companies that once sought to manipulate entire national conversations.

Escorcia’s investigations and insights have been featured in leading global media outlets, including The New York Times, BBC, CNN, Wired, VICE, The Guardian, Foreign Affairs, and Buzzfeed, as well as prominent European and Latin American publications such as El País, La Jornada, and Proceso.

Today, he collaborates with and advises media organizations, technology platforms, civil society groups, governments, and international agencies on strategies to identify and neutralize disinformation before it spreads.

His work has been cited in numerous academic studies and books by respected authors and researchers, including Peter Pomerantsev, Guiomar Rovira, Simona Levi, and Karin Pettersson.
