What was your first job as a journalist?
The first story I ever got published was about the College Mental Health and Wellness Day. Helping others through writing was powerful.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, when I was little in Russia, my uncle had one.
How is social media changing news?
It is making journalism involve the public more. You can be in the midst of a story and see how it affects others in real time.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email, with a good angle that's localized to my audience demographic.
What's your favorite social network?
Instagram.
Who do you wish followed you?
Hideo Kojima, the famous game designer. He is one of my favorite game makers, very humble and quirky.
Why did you become a journalist?
Originally, to write about video games and get into E3 but now to help make the world a better place.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The Courier News Wish Book 2018. I got to help over 10 individuals or families get what they were lacking for the holidays, like beds.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
The very many pitches that are spam in disguise or from another country, where I don't live or report.
What's your favorite drink?
Cream soda float. Just enough sugar to get a cavity but not enough for a tooth to fall out.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Walking around downtown taking pictures.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Washington Post and New York Times.
