Associate Feature: Scotland can deliver a global offshore revolution
Building world-leading offshore wind projects like Berwick Bank means Scotland can be less reliant on unsustainable fossil fuels and instead secure our own energy future now and for generations to come. Off the east coast of Scotland in the outer Firth of Forth lies the site of SSE Renewables’ proposed Berwick Bank Wind Farm. When fully delivered, Berwick Bank will generate enough clean, green energy to power more than five million homes annually – equivalent to supplying all of Scotland’s homes twice over or eliminating the country’s annual car emissions.
Associate Feature: Berwick Bank can deliver a clean energy and conservation ‘win-win’ for Scotland
The energy crisis has shown the urgency of rewiring our electricity system. The best way to move as quickly as possible away from volatile fossil fuels and towards clean renewable energy is by delivering projects at speed and scale. Berwick Bank Wind Farm, which submitted its consent application before Christmas, is just such a project. Located approximately 30 miles off the coast of East Lothian, Berwick Bank is set to generate up to 4.1GW of offshore wind power.
Associate Feature: When it comes to offshore wind, we need to think big and move fast

It’s a situation that requires action and determination to speed the transition from fossil fuels and ramp up renewable capacity at pace. SSE Renewables is at the forefront of making this happen. We have been urging both UK and Scottish Governments to help us move quickly to deliver the projects – and energy security - our country needs to break our dependence on volatile fossil fuels.
Transient behavior of through-flowing gravity currents interacting with a roughness array
Abstract We present laboratory experiments that investigate the structure and flow characteristics of gravity currents traveling through an array of roughness elements. The roughness elements are of comparable height to the gravity current such that the current flows through the roughness array rather than over it. The frontal velocity and density structure are measured as the current transitions from flowing along a smooth bed to flowing through the roughness array and then back to a smooth bed.
