MERRILLVILLE — The 59ers kicked the ball out of bounds on the first play of the gam. After that, things snowballed until it was completely out of control, leading to a Valparaiso victory of 55-18 over Andrean. The Vikings (1-1), motivated by their Week 1 loss to Penn, came out of the gate with intensity. "You're a losing football team, you're 0-1, you're not a state championship football team. So we had to go ahead and get back on track," Valparaiso coach Bill Marshall said.

Andrean falls 4-2 to Silver Creek in 3A championship
INDIANAPOLIS — Andrean coach Dave Pishkur tipped his cap to Silver Creek, saying they deserved to win. "They deserved to win. We did not deserve to win. They turned three double plays on us, they got two out base hits on us, made a nice diving play in left field. We didn't execute a bunt in a situation when we could have scored a run," Pishkur said, citing the many reasons he felt his team lost.

Illiana Christian claims second straight 2A baseball title
INDIANAPOLIS — Jeff VanderWoude was at a loss for words to describe the feeling of going back-to-back at the IHSAA Class 2A State Tournament. "I don't think I can explain. There's no words," Illiana Christian's coach said after his team's 3-0 win on Friday against Covenant Christian in the state title game. "It's hard enough to win one, but they do two in a row. That's what I was just telling these boys — don't take it lightly. Just getting here is so hard. It's so hard.
