I was a receptionist at San Diego Home/Garden Magazine. So, not a journalist but *almost* there

Be a news consumer. Write for your school paper. Gain experience writing about stuff that's not in your wheelhouse.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Reading, cooking, walking my dogs or volunteering at the rescue.

That they're soft or not as relevant as more right-brained reporting
