While we often think of photographs as flat images presented in the static pages of a book or in a frame on a wall, there are many artists working with the medium today who push their interpretations outside of traditional rigidity. Photography is now often moulded into new forms, like sculpture, performance and interactive installations, breaking the limitations of a flat, reproducible image. Instead, the medium becomes a unique experience for each participating viewer.
Joe Sultana was a lovely man and a very brave one. His passion for protecting birds often brought him into confrontation with men with guns and he only had his charm and his charisma to protect him. His passion for the protection of birds was infectious and, through his work, he became a legend. May he be escorted by the birds of paradise and welcomed by the Dove of Heaven. God bless him. He has helped change for the good everything he touched.
I’m visiting a new town. Its streets, crowded during the daytime, soon wear me out. I head back to the hostel for a nap as the sun sets. A quick shower and a quick wipe of my camera’s lens. I slip three rolls of T-MAX into my pocket. Stepping outside, I feel the first pangs of hunger and thirst, so I look for a diner. One filled with locals suits me just fine. A few customers, probably laborers, are already drunk. Later, some white-collar workers join in.
