What was your first job as a journalist?

Interning as a summer reporter for Black Press Media which is what I'm doing currently.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No, though I would love to just to see how it was back in the day.

How is social media changing news?

People are just reading an instagram post and not reading beyond the app. Headlines are more misleading than ever before.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Louis Ciccone

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To care about the truth and keep the people informed always.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Through email.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Laptop, recording app on phone, photoshop for the images.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter.

Why did you become a journalist?

I love to read and write! I love to analyze and journalism, I argue, is one of the most powerful and impactful degree programs out there.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No but I do for the university paper.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My first ever article for the university paper. It was about the Canadian ESports league that was created by Carleton Alumni.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Start young and focus on getting opportunities with different publications. Also understand that being unpaid is a big thing in the industry.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Writing about a new Japanese Swordsmanship gym opening in Barrhaven, Ottawa.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

I haven't had any bad ones per se but I have had some where understanding my sources was difficult.

What's your favorite drink?

Watermelon Juice or just a cup of ice-water.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

The gym, out for a walk, or at school.

Al-Jazeera, NY Times, NatGeo, CBC News, Toronto Star

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That Journalism is boring or a dying industry.
